Loading Pictures into your blog - 08/30/07 01:24 AM
I wrote this post as an answer to a question, but thought it might be useful to post it at the top blog level so people could find it more easily. I wanted to give instructions that had enough information to make it useful to everyone.  Please let me know if any parts of this are confusing and I'll do  my best to make this complex topic understandable.
This is the image editing icon. It works both to bring in the image in the first place and afterwards to do image editing. Once you click that cute icon you're going to get … (14 comments)

picnik for easy online graphics - 08/25/07 08:42 PM
Jeff Turner posted about the great online graphics program picnik a couple months ago, but I wanted to mention it again. I work with lots of graphics programs including Photoshop, ImageReady, and Fireworks. I like them all for their own purposes, but Picnik has added a great new feature that makes it almost perfect for blogging. You can grab pictures from your website or your MLS listings and quickly crop and edit them without touching anything but your web browser (Firefox in my case). You can even email listings directly to your web site if you are set up to receive … (4 comments)

Real estate guide to Internet map tools. - 08/23/07 10:26 AM
Real estate professionals have some great tools for understanding property and location that didn't exist just a few years ago. Almost everyone has used some form of simple map program like Google Maps or Yahoo Maps to find driving directions. Those sites may have steered you down the wrong street in the past, but the driving directions are getting a lot better. That's not all Internet mapping is good for.
I wanted to make sure my activerain blogging buddies knew about two programs that are racing to push the limits on  Internet based mapping. Google Earth and Microsoft's Virtual Earth 3D … (7 comments)

Healdsburg's 150th Birthday Parade - 08/20/07 02:33 PM
Nothing beats a parade. Roger Peters took these pictures of Healdsburg California's 150th Birthday parade on August 18, 2007. This parade of horse drawn vehicles was a splendid small town exhibit of our farming and agricultural history.

Meanwhile, at the Healdsburg plaza, our Healdsburg Sotheby's exhibit in the Healdsburg Museum tent about the history of the Geysers was a great hit. Daniel Drew reproduced hundreds of copies of the little book telling the true story of horse drawn trips to the Geysers in 1875. I have two highlights from the book. One describes a local character, Clarke Foss, who delighted … (1 comments)

Florence Street in Sebastopol - 08/17/07 04:24 PM
For better or worse, most of us live in ordinary neighborhoods. The homes are comparable, the landscaping is more or less consistent, and even the vehicles in the driveways resemble each other. What you won't usually find is a charming neighborhood of classic bungalows dotted with larger than life creatures and odd vehicles.
Sebastopol residents Patrick Amiot and Brigitte Laurent have created a wonderfully whimsical neighborhood that's a must see when you're in looking for real estate in the Sebastopol area or just exploring west Sonoma County.

Fixers - 08/16/07 03:47 PM
Fixers are my favorites. I know it's a strange choice; sort of like preferring liver and onions to lobster. Maybe it's the same instinct that makes kids want to adopt stray pets or adults to want to care for crying children. Whatever the cause, I am a dedicated seeker of distressed dwelling. Whenever I see peeling paint, a sloping floor, or overgrown gardens, I get the itch to fix.
Only about 1 in 10 buyers is willing to indulge my "check out this great fixer" routine, but they're the ones I have the most fun with. Sadly, many sellers today aren't … (0 comments)

Russian River Commute - 08/03/07 12:11 PM
I've got to have one of the most beautiful commutes in the world. I live in Guerneville along the lower stretch of the Russian River. I'm on a hill in the redwoods and jokingly refer to my house as a treehouse since our decks and windows look out into branches forty feet off the ground. I get my choice of four roads to my office in Healdsburg. If I'm in my usual rush, I will take Eastside Road which tracks the Russian River on the Windsor (East) side of the vineyards lining the Russian River Appellation. The vineyards here are commercial … (0 comments)
