Housing + Transportation Costs - 03/25/10 11:19 AM
The real estate industry deals with the cost of housing every day. The ratio of income to housing costs is a key factor in almost every transaction that needs financing. When we talk about affordability, we're usually referring to the bottom line house payment. If we're in a comprehensive discussion, we'll include insurance, property taxes, and other predictable costs. I'd like to propose that we add transportation to the discussion.
A "housing + transportation" website is factoring in not just house financing costs, but adding a dollar value for the cost of transportation. It's not an accurate site in the sense of … (9 comments)

Speechless Sunday - Magnolia - 03/14/10 12:50 PM
There are few trees that bloom as magnificently as magnolias. The Healdsburg City Hall has a handful of these specimens that bloom profusely, quickly, and then retreat into regular tree-hood for the rest of the year. While the show lasts, there aren't many things to rival it for color, drama, and effect.

Speechless Sunday - Russian River Valley Barn - 03/07/10 07:06 PM

There is something very human and organized about these grapes and their trellises and support wires. The aging barn and majestic oaks against a darkening sky provide evidence of entropy and nature's sprawl as counterpoint to the regimentation of the rows. This photo was taken in late February as the grass between the vines was enjoying a very wet spring.
