No show and lack of competition - 08/29/08 02:43 PM
I am sorry to say that there will not be a Mad Mortgage Machine show this weekend. The station that I do my show at WIMS am 1420 is a very busy and hardworking place. Well, we all decided to take some time off. My producer had his hands full and we decided to run some best of the morning show with little vignette's of my show in there as well. I, also, got an email today from a friend in the business, Scott Swinford to let me know that I now have less business in the industry of mortgage radio

9 Years and counting - 08/28/08 07:12 AM
Today, this very day 9 years ago. I woke knowing my life was about to change for the better. I was 30 years old had a decent job that I was hating more and more every day and I was about to take my first real vacation in years. I just tallied a 60 hour woke week in 4 days to make sure that I could go on this vacation. Oh, did I mention this vacation was my honeymoon? Yep, nine years ago today. I got married to my then girlfriend, Mary. She has been my best friend, my worst enemy,

Daddy do you... - 08/27/08 10:00 AM
This week was the eye opener for my daughter. Yes, the little blonde girl in the picture with me. She is real and not some paid celebrity though she was recognized the other day in the grocery store with my wife. But, the other day, we were in my truck and she said, "daddy do you give people money to buy a house?" I was, taken aback, she had never really talked about what I do. I know she has heard me and my wife talk about our jobs. My wife is an Actuary, and when she talks about her job.

Do the right thing - 08/24/08 09:06 AM
"Always do right. This will gratify some people, and astonish the rest." Mark Twain (1835 – 1910) American humorist and writer It is a shame that this quote is so true. Last few weeks, I had to reject a loan over the fact that I knew there was fraud afoot. I know there are people in my realm, who would have done the deal to get their foot in the door to the Realtors office. I refused - doing the right thing is not an option it is the only thing. I hate when I hear the Mortgage Brokers take pipe

Mad Mortgage Machine Weekly Radio Show & Podcast - 08/22/08 02:12 PM
This week on the Mad Mortgage Machine Radio Show and Podcast, I speak of he benefits of the new housing bill snf just how close to a bottom we might be. I had read an article on Yahoo Finance about how close to the bottom we can be and what are the indicators. I spoke on that, sharing my opinion, and I think and I am not alone on this that we are going to be turning a corner in the first part of 2009. I think if you can survive the next year of so. You are going to love

Risk, Chances, go bravely - 08/20/08 09:33 AM
"Take risks. Take chances. Don't be afraid. You gotta go into life brave." Billy Joel (1949 – ) Singer, pianist and songwriter You're nothing but a bigshot - I love that song. Are you taking risks right now. I know for many of us just staying in the business is a risk. A risk, that I am sure will pay off in spades in a year or so. I look forward to the time that all this balances out. I was reading Realtor magazine the other day and the NAR chief economist thinks this year and next will be the year

Housing Starts at its lowest - 08/19/08 08:31 AM
"I like thinking big...if you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big." Donald Trump (1946 – ) Real estate developer i am not a doom and gloom kind of guy, and I am not going to start here. So, allow me a little liberty here. One of the issues, of a lot of builders were that they over build. They took the "field of dreams" mentality, if you build it they will come. I read an article yesterday that a builder in Chicago had terminated most of its staff and ceased nearly all work since they had

I am really mad - 08/18/08 04:20 PM
I am really mad at myself today. I slept late. I was tired and my daughter had crawled in bed with me this morning after my wife left for work and she facilitated my laziness. Well, I got her off to day care a little late, and then I came home and got sucked into some busy work. Needless to say, I did not hit the street running. I allowed myself a few minutes of freedom and I paid the price in lack of production. I ran like the dickens in the last half of the day, and I am so

The Mad Mortgage Machine Radio Show - 08/15/08 12:35 PM
I sat through an Identity Theft Workshop last night and what some of these people have gone through is absolutely terrifying. - one woman having her door bashed by the cops to arrest her deadbeat son, but the son was two years old and someone had stolen his identity and had run up $50k inn fraudulent charges. - one man, who got a bill for a liver transplant, but he had no scars and when he questioned the hospital, they would not help him casue his signature did not match the one on file and they would not let him view

My new Flip Ultra and HR#221 - 08/14/08 01:07 AM
It is late and I decided to add some video that I did the other day when I got out of the gym. You never know when you may just get hit by a good thought for a blog. I keep my Flip with me always and I can do what I need to do to make a video at the spur of the moment. I hope you all enjoy and I look forward to positive feedback. HR3221 - is not my favorite bill in the world, but I am starting to warm up to it a little. I think we

Give them something to talk about... - 08/13/08 08:02 PM
I had been viewing a video from some guy, his name does not matter. He has had some trying times in his live and he said something that struck me. I mentioned this another blog, and my dad had always said it. "If you don't want to be talked about - don't do anything." I had heard my name bantered about back and forth. I generally pay it no mind, but I always found it funny that someone would think enough of me to bring me up out of nowhere. I was in a Real Estate office when two other reps

Love to hear from my "competition" - 08/13/08 07:45 PM
I was sitting here in the home office of Dave Woodson worldwide. The brain center to all things that I do. Mortgages, Real Estate Investment, Marketing and so on. When the hotline rang. I, almost, did not answer it was the "competition" an in-house lender. I will not tell you his name. I have enough respect for him to do that. He called to ask my advice on a deal that he was working. I thought about holding back, but I deferred and then I gave him all that I knew. Which really was not all that much. We have lost

The Mouths of Babes - 08/08/08 10:30 PM
I am moving get all moved into the basement and setting all of my equipment up. I decided to turn the cam on and have some fun with the girl. She loves being on camera and entertaining. I am pretty sure she gets that from me. I am the wild one at times. I do a lot of what I do because of her. She is fun, wild and creative as all get out. She is my daughter, my only child. She loves her mommy, daddy and Jesus. She wants to be a big sister when she grows up. I guess

This week on the Mad Mortgage Machine Radio Show - 08/08/08 09:02 AM
Well, this week, I am all over the board. I hit it all. I talk about the new law of the land HR3221, or as I call it the down payment killer and it's supposed "tax credit" but is basically an interest free loan. I hit on ID theft again and talk about the Private Money event coming up in Oak Lawn, Il just south of Chicago for more information on that email me at dave@madmortgagemachine.com. It is a $139 at the door, but by using my name it is only $79. I, also, talk on personal responsibility and explain LTV

Olympic Glory - 08/07/08 11:21 PM
It is here, it happens every two years now, The Olympics. I have always watched the Games at least since 1980 when the Americans beat USSR in Hockey, When Bruce Jenner was more that some hot chicks step-dad, and Mary Lou was every young boys dream date. What do you look forward to in the games? I was a track and field guy with Carl Lewis breaking records and getting golds even when Ben Johnson, yellow eyes and all, was stripped of his gold. When Dan and Dave fell apart and did not live up to Reeboks hype machine. To Greg

Are you on the list - you better hope you are not - 08/07/08 02:12 PM
As of this week a lot of mortgage brokers are out of business or at least should not be operating in the state of Indiana. The brokers were given a year to comply with a 2007 law to name a principle broker, a lot like our Real Estate brethren, and have that person pass a state exam. In NW Indiana, more than 75 failed to comply. I will tell you that some have gone on to become a banker or just decided that they were done with it all. If you feel that you are working with someone that is not

Tax Credit vs. Tax Deduction - 08/05/08 11:22 PM
As we all may know the new energy bill, err, I mean the new housing and economic blah blah bill was passed and there has been some discussion of the tax credit and some people think it is a tax credit. Lets get a few things straight. The tax credit is going to be a loan. Yes, you heard me right a LOAN. You are going to have to repay $500 a year back for up to 15 years. Hey, it is nice to get maybe your down payment back, but you have to repay it. They are doing away with

46 Years and counting - 08/04/08 08:49 AM
Today is my parents anniversary, 46 years. In a time, that many unions don't last a year or two. My parents have been happily (mostly) married for 46 years. so, if you see my parents around LaPorte today or up in New Buffalo at Redmaks that is where they are going for lunch. Wish them a happy anniversery. They have two great boys (yes, I am one of them) and 5 super grand-kids. They have the life of Riley spending time from Indiana and Florida. They are givers in the community. My mom was deputy treasurer and LaPorte city councilwoman for

Dream Job - 08/04/08 08:00 AM
"No matter what you're doing, try to work at that task like it's your dream job."Russell Simmons (1957 - )American entrepreneur I have had to question whether or not I am doing my dream job? What I do know is that I treat it as my dream job. I am not necessarily passionate about doing mortgages, but I love to teach and help. I love to speak and entertain. Yes, I love an audience. I have been doing a weekly radio show not only for mortgages but one that is more entertaining here, on WIMS-am 1420 and the Mad Mortgage Machine radio

Who do you know? - 08/02/08 05:25 PM
I was just reading a pretty interesting article in the Washington Post. Well, on Washingpost.com about the "6 degrees of separation". I am sure we all have heard about the game "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon". Where you name an actor and come up the shortest way back to Kevin Bacon. Here is an example: Arnold Schwarzenegger to Kevin Bacon - Seperation of two Kevin was in "we married margo" with Tom Arnold, Tom was in "true lies" with Arnold Well, it got me thinking and I have heard this before. Who do you know? Who do you know who

Bravo - Finally - Now, lets hope it passes - 08/02/08 09:05 AM
It seems that someone in Congress understands what down payment assistance means to the housing industry. The FHA Seller-Financed Downpayment Reform and Risk-Based Pricing Authorization Act of 2008 (H.R. 6694) If this bill is not passed it will take nearly 300,000 potential home buyers out of the market. Let me wite that again for those not quick enough to understand that. 300,000 possible home buyer out of the market to buy a new home. Oh, the few that have seen the light Maxine Waters, Gary Miller, Al Green and Christopher Shays. I am sad to say that I do not

Tune in tomorrow - WIMS-am 1420 - The Mad Mortgage Machine Radio Show - 08/02/08 06:55 AM
Today, I discuss and share my opinions on the new bill HR 3221 just passed by our Congress and Senate and signed by President Bush just last week. . If you had read my blog earlier this week. I was and am quite down on the resolution. I do not like it. I doubt that it will be the help, the real estate crisis savior that everyone thinks it will be. I really hope that I am wrong, but I doubt it I am really enjoying my show. I think that I am starting to get my feet on steady ground. I
