A Quick Trip To The Smokies In Tennessee - 08/28/11 08:24 PM
We just returned from a wonderful Get-A-Way in the Great Smokie Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was wonderful and I hope to post some pictures tomorrow or Tuesday. We were able to spend a couple of days with our Son, his Beautiful Wife Renee, and our lovely Granddaughter Ellie. We were privileged to have access to a beautiful home perched high up the mountains with wonderful scenic views. Most of all, we simply laughed, enjoyed our 1.5 year old Granddaughter, had wonderful food and enjoyed being with each other. Again, pictures will follow in a couple of days. (3 comments)
A Quotation That Caught My Attention - 08/27/11 04:14 PM
I came across an interesting quote from Erma Bombeck the other day. It simply reads:- When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything God gave me." - I've been thinking about this quote, specifically, how should this apply to me? The answer really isn't that profound, but rather simple: I want to use everything God has given me for family, neighbors, friends, clients, church, as a husband/father, and grandfather. I'm sure the list could be longer, but this (7 comments)

Enjoyed A Day Off Today - 08/25/11 09:23 PM
It had been a while since I'd taken a full day away from Real Estate. The fact is, I love what I do and seldom get tired of working as a Real Estate Professional. Along with that, we are Empty Nesters which makes it easy to work 7 to 7 - most days of the week. I decided a few days ago that I would take a day off and enjoy some quiet time with my camera, my wife and a drive through the country. So today we turned off the cell phone, computer and took that drive. In a few days I (5 comments)

Virginia Has A Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On - 08/23/11 06:40 PM
I couldn't resist doing this tribute today since we had a lot of rockin and rollin in Virginia. Yes, I'm talking about the Earthquake of August 23, 2011. So I thought a bit of a tribute might be appropriate and who else but Jerry Lee Lewis back in the 50s to set the stage for us with his Landmark Song - Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On. Follow the link to enjoy the song:Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On - 1957On the serious side: We are grateful that aside from some minor damage, no one was injured! Pictures May Not Always Tell The True Story Of The Condition Of A House - 08/22/11 03:02 PM
Last Saturday was a bit different for me than the typical day of showing properties. Instead of touring homes with clients, I set out on a Mission for an Out of Town Client who simply needed pictures. I've done this many times for clients in the past with very successful conclusions. Since I would be on this Picture Fact Finding Mission, I invited the newest member of our team along (a new Realtor) so she could see what I typically do when helping someone out like this. There were four homes to tour, just outside of Washington DC. Three of them were (4 comments)
A Long But Profitable Weekend - 08/21/11 08:19 PM
I will admit it this evening, it has been a long and very busy weekend. I'm not complaining because I personally like it that way. The fact is, I intended to post something this evening to Active Rain and the goal has been in front of me ALL day. But I will admit, I'm brain dead! So here is my post and a thought for everyone reading this brief message."Peace is looking at a Sunset and knowing Who to thank" - Author Unknown
School Days - Watch For The Bus - 08/20/11 07:03 PM
I understand that some schools districts will have students heading back to school next week. Others will be the day after Labor Day. I want to share a simple reminder in this blog post about the Virginia School Bus Law that all drivers need to pay attention to. Please remember, I am a Realtor®, NOT an Attorney, but this isn't Rocket Science to understand: The law is clear that a person is guilty of reckless driving who fails to stop, when approaching from any direction, any school bus which is stopped on any highway, private road or school driveway for the (4 comments)

Haymarket Regional Food Pantry In Need Of Donations - 08/12/11 02:26 PM
I was just noting that the Gainesville Times has a lengthy article on the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. The writing points out that the Pantry is struggling to keep up with the demand for assistance. People are asking for milk and often they are out! Others ask for simple necessities such as Bathroom Tissue and often they are out. This points to only one thing: All of us who live in the area should become better acquainted with the needs of the Panty and other not-for-profit organiztions, and make an effort to get involved. Here is your contact information if you would (1 comments)
Preparing Your Home To Sell - 08/11/11 05:38 PM
One question Real Estate Agents are almost always asked by someone getting ready to list their house for sale is, "What Updates Should I Care For On My Home Before Selling?" In other words, how to I get my house ready to sell?I've posted many times before on this subject, but today, I came across a good article that might help guide you just a bit. It is called, "5 Inexpensive Updates To Complete Before Listing Your Home". I hope you will follow the link and take a moment to read. Gainesville Virginia Continues To Grow - 08/08/11 06:10 PM
Many people who live in Gainesville, Virginia are noticing some significant changes in the area and all of them are very positive! For example: Work has been finished on the I66 interchange with Lee Highway (29). It is amazing how much easier moving around the interchange has become. Additionally, the shopping center, Virginia Gateway, has started another significant phase. This project is called: The Promenade at Virginia Gateway . . . It will contain a Regal 14 Screen Theatre and a BJs Wholesale Club. When you look at the shopping already present, the many, many Restaurants scattered throughout the Shopping, you (0 comments)
A Reminder: Paul Anka Performing At Wolftrap August 18th 2011 - 08/07/11 06:41 PM
This is just a reminder that on the 18th of August, 2011, Paul Anka will be performing at Wolftrap. I for one believe the concert will be an incredible event worth being a part of. Paul has enjoyed three No. 1 hits, as well as 22 Top 20 appearances, and the most-played theme song for Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show.Remember, the great thing about Wolftrap is you can sit indoors or on the lawn. In times past when I've sat on the lawn, I've enjoyed the concert, brought our own picnic lunch and met many wonderful people. If you would like to (1 comments)

Sometimes Sellers Can Be Guilty Of Over Promising - 08/04/11 01:14 PM
A few years ago I was showing a buyer a beautiful house on a wonderful lake. The house had many views of the lake with a great dock and beach. It was priced around one million dollars. The sellers wanted to be home for the showing and we didn’t object. In fact, they were very kind in giving us privacy while they enjoyed the beach. At the end of our tour, Mrs. Seller came into the house and asked if we had any questions. My client had one: “What about the vacant lot next door?” My buyer was actually going to (4 comments)
HOA's Fees and More - 08/03/11 06:20 PM
I'm a Realtor®, but I've often grumbled to my wife and others I'm close to about HOA's and their Fees! In fact, a short time ago we spent thousands of dollars fixing up the outside of our house, wrapping it in Vinyl, doing some painting and even replacing the Garage door. You would think the HOA would take notice when doing the Annual Inspection and commend us for helping our home look so nice. Not so! Instead, a couple months ago we were written up and cited for a little rust on our Mailbox. I hadn't noticed it but one of the (4 comments)
