Crews in cranes pour bridge piers along I-405 in Renton
Daytime drivers on I-405 in Renton and Tukwila may have noticed large cranes along the side of the southbound lanes. Construction crews are widening the I-405 bridge over Oakesdale Way SE and Springbrook Creek. Crews are using two cranes , visible from the freeway, to drill large holes and pour bridge piers that will support the new bridge. Crews complete emergency pumping systems on I-405 culvert repair work in Renton - 01/07/08 04:43 PM

The weekend before Christmas, WSDOT crews worked to complete all three runs of pipe in the new emergency pumping system to protect I-405 from a heavy rainstorm. The pipe systems are diverting Thunder Hills Creek, which normally flows through a culvert under I-405. This culvert collapsed in the Dec. 3 rainstorm, creating the need for emergency repairs. Completing the new pumping system has allowed WDOT to open all I-405 lanes and Talbot Road to traffic again.

John Dingell (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, wants to phase out mortgage interest write-offs for houses larger than 3,000 square feet, using a graduated scale that ends with zero deductions for properties with 4,200 square feet or more, which he calls "energy guzzlers," in the interest of global warming.
