Wind power - 07/09/08 03:38 PM
Windmills have been around for centuries to generate power for a variety of needs.  A new type of wind generation system has been developed by placing wind generators on top of tall buildings in cities.  These machines appear to be lying on their sides but actually rotate better than windmill type generators.  The face of the building can be modified to increase the wind tunnel effect and output.  These types of energy generators are unseen which is an improvement over the wind farms sprouting up all over and they are reported to be more efficient.

Too hot to handle - 07/02/08 03:38 PM
Now that the heat records are being broken, I've had to forget the front porch.  Anything over 95 is just too hot for me to handle.  But the same methods to savings energy use can be applied in summer as in winter.  Keep all south and west facing window coverings closed during the hottest part of the day to reduce cooling costs.  Make sure all doors and windows are closed and sealed (it's easier to leave the window open and forget about it in the summer).  Also, turn the thermostat to a comfortable level but not to the extreme.
