blogging: My Top 25 Sites for WordPress Themes - 07/16/08 03:23 PM
When you're looking for free WordPress themes you quickly discover there are thousands, if not millions, of them online! Some are better than others - a lot are rehashes of common themes, but then there are some beautiful and unusual themes that are freely available. One thing to keep in mind is that if you find a theme you really like, make sure you read the comments about it and look at the star rating if available. Some themes, although fantastic looking, don't work well or have bugs you need to be aware of. Also, make sure it will work with

blogging: Get a Comment Link AND a Link to Your Blog - 07/09/08 11:40 AM
One of my favorite WordPress plugins is Comment Luv, and I have finally been able to add it to my SEO Diva blog after a theme upgrade. Comment Luv is a nice way to thank a visitor for leaving a comment on your blog by automatically listing the most recent blog post for their blog, with a link to the article. Head on over to SEO Diva and try it it out - leave a comment and see your most recent blog post appear below it. This won't won't work for blogs on AR itself, but should work fine on the

blogging: Stop Hackers: Protect Your WordPress Blog - 07/03/08 11:46 AM
You need some serious password protection if you have a WordPress blog. Your wp-admin directory is not the only part of your blog that needs protection...plugins, scripts, includes and content can all be hacked. I'm paying more attention to this now because one of my blogs got hacked last week. Hundreds of invisible links for body part enlargement products and porn were attached to one of my blog posts, and the only reason I discovered the hack was because there were so many lines of code they crashed the post. I was lucky that only one post was affected. Research led

blogging: Promote Your Blog With These Two Great Lists - 03/20/08 12:08 PM
Please be sure to visit the Diva for the two most recent posts. 29 Niche Social Media Sites is a nice list of niche sites. None are specific to real estate, but you still may be able to work your site in sideways. Besides, I know some of you have non-real estate blogs too. Promote Your Blog in These Directories is a gigantic list of blog directories, in order of Alexa ranking, with the Page Rank listed. This is a great resource, and submission will increase traffic, links, and rankings. I confess I am really bad about promoting my blogs the way I should, and

blogging: WordPress Guide Series - 02/22/08 09:54 AM
Do you know how your WP blog works, what files to put where, and how to upgrade to the latest WordPress version? Read the first installment of WordPress Guide posts to learn how to install your blog to an existing web site, how to upgrade it without messing anything up, and what should be in the various files. This looks like it will be a great series to follow, so I made sure I was subscribed to the feed. ~ From SEO Diva

blogging: You Can Syndicate Your Blog - 02/12/08 08:25 PM
According to Google, if you syndicate an article (or blog post) you can place it on another site without penalty. The key to doing this is to link back to the original source of the article from the syndicated spot. I've been testing this for a few weeks. I've been posting to SEO Diva first, then placing the same post on Active Rain with a link back to Seo Diva. I then have Zimbio ping my blogs, and delete the AR version in favor of the Diva. The reason I post to my Diva blog first is because she needs Page Rank

blogging: Social Media Mogul Poll - 02/05/08 04:37 PM
Are you a social media mogul? Have you LinkedIn, Facebooked, Ninged, Twittered, Zimbio'd and Squidoo'd? Is Craigslist a personal friend, do you check Feedburner hourly, and do you Plaxo daily? There are so many social network sites, so many ways to tweet and twitter about your blog, site, or product. It's really hard to get it with some of them, much less keep up with them all. So eventually it's time to choose the ones you do get, that seem to bring in the traffic, and importantly, that you enjoy. What works best for you? Go to SEO Diva to

blogging: Use Social Networks to Promote Your RSS Feed - 02/01/08 02:31 PM
From SEO Diva I discovered great a blog post on RSS from WordPress Web 2.0 Spot-Er, and found the bottom half of the post to be of greatest interest to me. Be sure to check out the blog for the entire post and more info, but below are excerpts of how to bring a steady flow of traffic to your blog using social networks. 1. Claim Your Blog On Technorati. This step should be obvious… Create an account and claim your blog. 2. Join Blogcatalog and submit your blog. Once your blog is approved, your feed will be displayed on your profile

blogging: Blog Rankings According to RSS Subscribers - 01/31/08 10:55 AM
DailyBlogTips has a post on Rating Burner, which ranks the top 400 blogs on the web according to the number of RSS subscribers. There are a lot of SEO and Internet marketing bloggers on the list. It's a handy-dandy way to find popular blogs in your niche. You'll still have to determine if they use 'no follow' tags if you plan to comment for linkbuilding purposes. It's cool except for the weird faces.

blogging: The Rules: Blog Comments for Linkbuilding - 01/31/08 08:19 AM
From SEO Diva Leaving comments on blogs can be a valuable part of your linkbuilding campaign.* It does not mean leaving "Great post!" comments on every blog you find. Most bloggers will delete those ASAP, as they should. Leaving proper blog comments takes time and effort. The rules are simple enough: Find relevant blogsRead the blog postingLeave a comment that adds value to the discussionKeep your comment in line with the blog's comment policyMake sure the web site you're linking to (yours) is worthwhile Follow these guidelines, and you'll develop a nice portfolio of blog comment backlinks, and perhaps make a name

blogging: The Power of Blogs - 01/28/08 10:02 PM
From SEO Diva During some of my research, I came across some eye-opening statistics! Blog Facts 1. 50 Million US Internet users visited blog sites in Q1 2005. That’s 30% of all US Internet Users and 1 in 6 of total US population. Source: ComScore By extrapolating the data in #5 below, that number would now be (at a minimum) over 71 million Internet users visiting blogs. 2. 1 out of 20 US adults have created a blog and 11% of Internet users are regular blog readers. blogging: Zimbio - Just Do It! - 01/03/08 03:41 PM
by SEO Diva This blog post was originally titled "Why I'm Secretly Smiling" then when nobody seemed to get it, changed it to "Why I'm NOT Secretly Smiling." Well, that didn't work either, and this tip is SO good, I want you all to try it. So here I go again... This tip is golden - I promise! Do you want to know my secret? It's Zimbio, which most people haven't even heard of. Okay, apparently I've made this as clear as mud. So I'll just say this - go visit Zimbio, it's as easy as pie to use, and see what

blogging: Top 50 Real Estate Marketing Bloggers - 12/17/07 05:32 PM
Wow, I am so honored! I just got the following message: You made our list! We recently published: "Top 50 Real Estate Marketing Bloggers" at http://www.intlistings.com/articles/2007/top-50-real-estate-marketing-bloggers/ and we included you. Just recently I was enviously scanning a list of top bloggers, thinking I'd never be in a list like that, so I am doubly thrilled to get this honor. On top of that, it's going to be very interesting reading what these other real estate bloggers have to say. I don't always agree with everything I read, but I can always glean helpful nuggets of information, new ideas and methods, and at

blogging: More on Photo Blogs - 11/05/07 09:04 PM
I see that many of you are essentially "photo blogging" on Active Rain. (See my post No Time? Start a Photo Blog) Have you thought about adding the same information on an independently hosted blog, with a keyword rich domain name, to give added links to your site? Not only that, you'd have more chances to pick up home buyers and sellers that are researching homes and agents on the Internet. This seems like a real "no-brainer" to me. It would take a little time initially to get the domain name and set up the blog. After that it would take almost no

blogging: No Time? Start a Photo Blog - 10/20/07 10:40 AM
An AR blogger asked the question - Why blog when you can just show pictures? She makes a good point - let me tell you how to do that and reap SEO benefits from it. First, start a privately hosted WordPress blog. See my blog post Give Your Web Site a Huge Boost in Google for tips. The purpose of your photo blog is to show featured listings. Choose the home you want to feature, write up a little blurb about it using keywords, and pop photos of the home in the post. Link a couple of keyword phrases to your main web site. Make

blogging: Top 100 Social Bookmarking Sites - 10/19/07 10:52 PM

blogging: Give Your Web Site a Huge Boost in Google - 10/18/07 09:19 PM
I realized I haven't covered this SEO strategy yet, after mentioning it to a commenter on one of my previous blog postings. A great way to promote a web site that is languishing in the Google sandbox, or isn't doing well in the SERPs, is to: Register a new, keyword rich domain name. For instance GeorgeHouses4Sale.com, or even George-Houses-4-Sale.com.Set up hosting for your blog.I recommend Dream Host for blog hosting - you can have an unlimited number of blogs, they have 1-click WordPress setup, and their customer support is awesome. I've made arrangements to have the set-up fee waived - just click on
