google: Catch the Google Wave - Win an Invite - 12/17/09 07:01 PM
I have several extra Google Wave invitations that I'm giving away.
If you'd like one, just sign up for my SEO newsletter. I'll randomly select 5 subscribers on Wednesday, December 23rd.
Google Wave will change the face of the Internet. The technology is astonishing! There's a video at the newsletter link (above) that shows some of what can be done with it. The guy who made the video is into programming, but it will be a wonderful tool for any business person.

google: Take Advantage of Knol - 08/01/08 06:17 PM
Google’s new service, Knol, is their version of Wikipedia - a repository of knowledge that people can create and add to. But that’s not all it is.

You can create a page, which is a standalone article, on any topic. Others can contribute to your page if you allow them to. Or not. Others can also comment on and rate your page.
How to Use Knol Knol is totally simple to use. Click on the “Write a Knol” button, give your page a title (which of course contains relevant keywords), a subtitle if you wish (containing more keywords), and a … (7 comments)

google: Keyword Advice for PPC Marketing - 06/17/08 04:43 PM
If you're running a PPC campaign you know how expensive top keywords can get.
Search Marketing Standard's series on Seven Habits of Highly Successful Search Engine Marketing gives solid and helpful advice on how to spend your online marketing budget wisely.
There are a couple of areas in Part II - Keyword Best Practices - that especially caught my interest.
Create Basic Keywords expands on the 5 types of keyword sets your campaign should encompass:
Root terms Synonyms Action Prefixes and Suffixes Run-ons and Misspellings Plurals (Google only) By carefully developing, assessing, and using these 5 types, you will generate a … (17 comments)

google: Go Long-Tail Go! - 02/01/08 05:55 PM
From SEO Diva
Stats from the horse's mouth:
The average Google query now consists of 4 words 14% of Google click come from paid search - 86% from organic 25% of Google's user queries are unique* Reported by Beu Blog
Hmmm, gives long-tail keywords new value.
How do you optimize for long-tail?
Content.
This may seem counter to my previous posts, but it's not. Content is not the be-all and end-all (i.e. King) of SEO, but it does have an important place in search engine optimization.
It all works together...don't ignore one facet of optimization for another. Onsite, offsite, off … (13 comments)

google: Page Rank Update in Progress - Go Check Yours - 01/11/08 04:30 PM
Google is early with this PR update. Apparently they are still smacking some people down for buying/selling links. All my sites are either the same or went up a little.
SEO Diva is now a PR3, which I'm happy about, since she's not very old and I've neglected her terribly.
If you don't have the Google toolbar installed on your browser, you can still look up your site's page rank. Whether it's "for entertainment purposes only" or not, we all like to know what ours is, don't we.

google: Yahoo Algorithm Shift - 11/29/07 01:01 PM

There are reports that Yahoo! has changed its algorithm, placing a higher value on new content, which is in line with Google and MSN.
So, again, a blog on your web site will be a boon to your SERPs in all 3 major search engines.
Another way of capitalizing on this is to add pages to your site - for example, city pages where you  write about featured locations and events, which can be changed once a month or so.
Although Yahoo! doesn't have the search volume of Google, don't discount it. One of my sites disappeared from Google for 6 weeks, and … (7 comments)

google: Google Crawled my AR Blog Post Within 5 Minutes - 10/25/07 05:52 PM
I've had this happen on other sites, but not this fast!
I know the Google spider came for a visit so quickly, because I made a spelling error on my title - arrrrrrgh! and there it was, cached for all to see. I had that error fixed within 5 minutes of uploading it.
That is one lightning fast spider, and says a lot for what Google thinks of Active Rain.

google: Give Your Web Site a Huge Boost in Google - 10/18/07 09:19 PM
I realized I haven't covered this SEO strategy yet, after mentioning it to a commenter on one of my previous blog postings.
A great way to promote a web site that is languishing in the Google sandbox, or isn't doing well in the SERPs, is to:
Register a new, keyword rich domain name. For instance GeorgeHouses4Sale.com, or even George-Houses-4-Sale.com.Set up hosting for your blog.I recommend Dream Host for blog hosting - you can have an unlimited number of blogs, they have 1-click WordPress setup, and their customer support is awesome. I've made arrangements to have the set-up fee waived - just click on … (72 comments)

google: Real Estate Websites Highly Competitive - 10/01/06 06:23 PM
Statistics can be boring and they can be confusing, but there is plenty of clarity in the most recent numbers revolving around real estate websites. For example, according to comScore, traffic to U.S. real estate sites grew 23% from April 2005 to April 2006, representing an increase from roughly 34 million to 42 million unique monthly users. That’s right, monthly users. The NAR (National Association of Realtors) reports that the percentage of potential U.S. home buyers using the Internet as part of their housing search process went from 2% in 1995 to 77% in 2005.Real Estate agents need to realize that their … (2 comments)

google: Optimize for MSN with Fresh Content - 10/01/06 04:47 PM
Google retains over 60% of the search engine market. However, it's well worth it to optimize for MSN, which draws a mostly over-40 demographic.
As with Google, well written reader-friendly content is vital. With MSN, regularly updated content makes a huge difference. Perhaps you have a page you can update regularly with featured homes for sale, or add a page monthly highlighting an area, subdivision, or event in your community.
Do a little brainstorming, and I'm sure you can come up with an idea that works for your site. The bonus is, as your rankings increase in MSN, they'll also be … (6 comments)
