March 2 thru March 8 is National Consumer Protection Week. Orange County, NY Executive Edward A. Diana and Department of Consumer Affairs Commissioner Charles Mitchell marked National Consumer Week with special outreach programs designed to heighten awareness of consumer issues.
The Orange County Department of Consumer Affairs wants to protect the residents of the county and would be residents of Orange County from fraud, deception and unfair business practices. Its goal is to promote an atmosphere of trust for consumers in the marketplace by providing consumer assistance and advice in handling problems encountered with the county's business community.

Woodbury Community Day is back on the calendar this year. Woodbury Community Day started in the 1990's as a way of introducing residents to the area's businesses. But the event was not held last year. This year, the event is scheduled for Saturday September 8, 2007.
The day time venue will take place on Smith Clove Road, off Route 32 in Central Valley between the hours of 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. A new program called "Second Chances" will be offered by the Orange-Ulster BOCES Office of Adult and Continuing Education. The new program plans on supporting young people in obtaining their GED. The program will work with youth between the ages of 16 through 21 who are not currently enrolled in school.

Orange County NY has many towns, villages and hamlets, but only has three cities. The cities are Newburgh, Port Jervis and Middletown. The City of Newburgh is located in the most eastern part of the county and borders the Hudson River. The City of Port Jervis is located in the most western part of the county and borders the Delaware River. The City of Middletown is just about in the middle of Newburgh and Port Jervis. So, the name speaks for itself.

orange county: Thirty-Two Graduates From OC Fire Training Center in July 2007 - 08/06/07 04:24 AM
A group of 32 men and women graduated from the Orange County Fire Training Center in July 2007. The Orange County Fire Training Center is located in New Hampton.
This group of volunteers was the first required to complete 86 hours of training over the course of several months. The training included instructions in dealing with hazardous materials, as well as, fire assessment.
At the conclusion of their graduation, the volunteers raised a large American flag.

There have been changes in the housing market in Orange County, NY from the 4th Quarter in 2006 to 1st Quarter in 2007. According to the Greater Hudson Valley Multiple Listing Service's Economic and Market Watch Report, the average sales price of a home increased in the 1st Quarter of 2007. Up from $339,500.00 in the 4th Quarter of 2006 to $340,600.00 in the 1st Quarter of 2007.
The report also stated that there was a decrease in the number of homes sold in the 1st Quarter of 2007. Down from 783 in the 4th quarter of 2006 to 565 in the 1st Quarter of 2007. The report … (1 comments)

Orange County, NY is a great place to live. The county is located within commuting distance to NYC. Commuting to NYC can be achieved via railroad or easy access to major highways. Orange County consists of many different communities and offers diversity, a variety of attractions, and many historical sites. As a 20+ year resident of Orange County, I can sincerely say "It is a great place to live and raise a family."
