morganton nc: Burke Reads, Burke County NC, October 2012
- 09/27/12 05:01 AM
Every year, we celebrate the month of October with a community read. This year is no different. We will be reading The Great Gatsby, and free copies will be offered on 9/30 at the Burke County Public Library in Morganton, NC. As you'll see from the calendar below, there'll be lots of related activities. Why not grab some friends or family members and join us?
There's no doubt that one of my favorite local artists is Phil Jablonski. Is it because his art is organic in nature and often crafted from recycled objects in steel, copper, fiberglass, or even old doors? Possibly. You'll want to check out his website at www.philjablonski.com. An exhibition of his work, entitled "Reclamation and Form" will take place at MESH Gallery, located in downtown Morganton, NC, starting Monday September 24 and ending on Friday, November 9, 2012. The traditional reception for the artist will be held on Friday, September 28th from 6 - 8 pm. MESH Gallery's address is 114-B West (0 comments)

Girl Scouts in Burke County, NC buried a time capsule on the Old Courthouse Lawn in 1987 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Girl Scouting. They have recently unearthed it, 25 years later, and its contents were used in the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in Morganton NC on March 9, 2012. Understanding this, the Morganton Main Street Office is sponsoring a Food Drive during the Halloween Spooktacular and Trick or Treating event on Monday, October 31, 2011.
There is a food donation truck parked on S. Green Street in downtown Morganton, beside Courthouse Square and across from Marquee Cinemas. Residents (4 comments)
