DinnerThe most romantic place for Dinner in Silver Spring has to be Sergios.
It is intimate, quiet and dark, like a cozy cave, the wait staff are attentive, the drinks are good, the food is Real Native Italian, Generous and Excellent! (especially the veal dishes). The atmosphere is understated thick white tablecloth elegant and romantic.
Nothing beats having that warm, friendly, personal greeting from Sergio Toni, the owner, a native of Rome and now a Silver Springer. Sergio has been involved with this restaurant since 1982 when it was Mamma Reginas.

There is a new and "improved" corner in Silver Spring. Gil's Restaurant has opened @ the corner of Silver Spring Avenue and Piney Branch Road. It's the corner store at the end of the old strip shopping center on Piney Branch Road near the intersection of Dale and Piney Branch.
I hardly recognized this place. It's was the site of Matchu Pitchu restaurant and then something like Lembada's (not sure of either spelling), just remember the restaurants there before were "scruffy", beat up looking, raucous at night and not very appetizing.

Step back in time behind the cases and coolers of beer, wine, snack displays and the cramped cash register to one of Silver Spring's best kept secrets. A little "lunch counter"/restaurant and bar that's been in business as a deli since 1937. The business has been located in the Flower Avenue Shopping Center since 1950 in the same strip of shops that surround the old historic Flower Avenue Theatre Building. The current proprietor "Hadi" took over the Flower Delicatessen from the original owner in 1979 and "redecorated" the deli bar/restaurant. Finally, after years of being vacant, the quaint old Forest Glen Landmark has had quite the facelift and is getting a fresh start. The structure built in 1918 was Formerly the Forest Glen Country Store where they sold candy, treats, crafts, souveniers, nick naks and at one time had a small lunch cafe. The owners of the former popular Colorado Kitchen in DC have opened a charming, southern style casual restaurant complete with "down home" atmosphere. It's nippy, damp and clammy out. Today was the day to get my first guart of Chicken Soup for the season from the Parkway Deli (also known as the Grubb Road Deli) in Silver Spring. Yummm . . . . It never disappoints at this time of the year and through the rest of the fall and winter. I consider this the best chicken soup in Silver Spring.It is really the "Matzoh Ball Soup" served from a big square vat at the carry out part of the restaurant.
