wordless wednedsay in silver spring: Wordless Wednesday - Iris - 05/25/11 10:02 PM
These delicate dwarf iris have been coming up and blooming in my garden every year for the past 15 years.  I love having  perennials in my landscape.  They bloom year after year after year without any muss or fuss or complicated tending or planting.  I almost forget they are there until they pop up and delight me every year at this time.

wordless wednedsay in silver spring: Wordless Wednesday - OH YUMMMM - 05/18/11 06:14 PM
This is a large steak and cheese sub from Santucci's in Silver Spring.  Santucci's is a little Italian Deli in the Woodmoor Shopping Center on Colesville Road, Four Corners, Maryland.  This place has the best subs ever!  It's been here as far back as I can remember.  It's better than Quiznos, Subway, Jerrys or any other "chain" sub place around.  The flavor is homemade, NY italian deli meat, special seasonings, really good italian bread and attention to detail.  They take their subs seriously here and it shows.

Azaleas are not native to Silver Spring or Takoma Park, Maryland, it only seems this way because there are so many of them everywhere!  Thanks to the passion of many people who lived in the Wahington, DC area and to the National Arboretum, azaleas have been hybridized extensively since the 1930's.  Nothing is prettier than a drive through Silver Spring or Takoma Park (nicknamed Azalea City) at azalea peak blooming time.  They are Pink, White, Lavendar, Fushia, Salmon and my favorite, Deep Coral.

wordless wednedsay in silver spring: Wordless Wednesday - Camellia Blooms in Silver Spring, Maryland - 04/13/11 06:01 PM
The Camellia Bush is finally blooming.  It's very late this year.  This camellia is usually blooming by sometime in February.  I heard that the woman that owned my house way before me was best friends with a woman that lived three doors up from me.  Both women are now deceased but they had a love of gardening and "the South".  The lady that lived in my house was from South Carolina and her Camellia Bush is planted at the back of the house.  It is unusual because it has white with fushia striped flowers and on the same bush flowers that are solid fushia.  The … (5 comments)
