September 15, 2010 marked the 189th year that Costa Rica celebrated it's Independence! On Sept. 15, 1821, Costa Rica, along with the rest of Central America declared its independence from Spain. Now an official country holiday the Ticos began their celebrations on Tuesday evening as proud Costa Ricans gathered together to sing the national anthem and light traditional candle lanterns. In Cartago, the country's original capital, east of San José, President Laura Chinchilla will received a torch carried all the way from Guatemala as a symbol of the spreading of the good news of independence throughout Central America.

¡Día de padre feliz! —Father's day is celebrated in Costa Rica on the 3rd Sunday in June. Although it is not an "official" holiday it is a special day to show appreciation to fathers. In Costa del Sol at Playa Bejuco our thanks and appreciation was shown to our dedicated hard working workers and their families with a fun fiesta in the Rancho. There was lots of good food, music, dancing and swimming! Ticos are warm and freindly people with a strong sense of family. One of our favorite things to do on Saturday morning in Costa Rica is to drive down to Quepos, a charming little fishing village, about 30 minutes below us here in Costa del Sol between Parrita and Dominical and buy our supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers set up their booths on the high road that runs along the water so there is usually a nice cool breeze and you can watch the tides as they roll in and out. According to the level of the tides you might even get to watch some of the fisherman at work (1 comments)
