camas wa: Rural Homes for Sale in Clark County WA - Welcome to the Country - 04/08/20 11:00 AM

The stars shine brighter here in the country. They really do. The reason? They are not competing with the light pollution emanating from commercial areas,  porch lights, and street lights.

The air smells fresher too. Less traffic translates into less fuel emissions. Plus there are generally more trees around. Trees are remarkable air filters working to remove carbon dioxide and other gases from the air we breathe.

It's generally quieter in the country. At our rural home in Camas, Washington, we enjoy listing to the sounds of the Little Washougal River, especially in the fall and winter months when the rains bring higher … (40 comments)

ViewHomes of Clark County - The Summit at Autumn Hills
We enjoying selling ViewHomes on Livingston Mountain.  We are almost sure to see some wildlife in this " Nature As Neighbors," neighborhood. Recently, while attending one of our buyers' Open House, we saw a family of five deer on Livingston Mountain Road, and once inside the neighborhood, we saw several more on our way to their house.
The Summit is surrounded by towering pines, alders, and wildlife. On this particular late winter afternoon, the trees sparkled from a recent rain. We enjoyed the sun setting on the horizon through a hazy cloud cover - the effect was ethereal.
Area trails are marked … (16 comments)

camas wa: News and Views of Clark County - Nico Bella in Camas - 11/13/15 12:51 AM
Nico Bella Salon and Spa in Camas - A lovely view in Downtown Camas.
Nico Bella is owned by our friends Jason and Wendee Hanlon. Wendee is not only an owner, she is also a talented hairdresser. She once worked at the most sought after hair salon in Portland. Her knowledge of color and techniques is legendary. For big city salon services with the charm of a small town atmosphere, we are always happy to refer our real estate clients to Nico Bella.
Wendee took this photo on her iPhone recently. It was another lovely Fall day in downtown Camas.

camas wa: Celebrate May Day With Camas First Friday! - 05/01/15 01:10 AM
It’s First Friday in Camas and Spring is Here!

In the spirit of old traditions, Camas celebrates May Day with flower baskets, maypole dancing, and more.
May Day has a history of being a popular religious and secular holiday – ostensibly celebrating the coming of Spring and new growth of flowers and greenery. Over the years, traditions have included May baskets filled with flowers left anonymously on a neighbor’s door, or dancing around a town’s maypole, wrapping it with ribbons.
Starting downtown tonight from 5-8 PM, the first 50 attendees to play the Lady Bug Scramble receive a free bouquet of May flowers from … (25 comments)

camas wa: Earth Day - It has its Roots in Camas, WA - 04/21/15 11:53 PM
Time Magazines 1999 Hero of the Planet, Denis Hayes Found Inspiration in Camas
Earth Day founder, Denis Hayes was born in Wisconsin, but grew up the charming small town of Camas, Washington. His experiences growing up in the Pacific Northwest helped instill his  love of and appreciation for nature. His passion for protecting the environment came from witnessing the harm the local paper mill was doing, at that time, to the pristine environment, and its populace.
Camas sits at the mouth of the wild and scenic Columbia River Gorge. What a dichotomy to have the local employer spewing out toxins into the stunning landscape. To further … (30 comments)

camas wa: Sunday Dinners - A Time for Family Gatherings - 02/01/15 12:39 AM
Bernie, my husband, takes over the blog today to share one of his recipes.
Sunday Eggplant Parmesan

If you plan to have a lot of people over for the Super Bowl, or you regularly serve a large family, this is a healthy dinner that is relatively quick, and can feed a lot of people.

Eggplant is a one of those nutritious vegetables (technically a fruit for purists) that can be tricky to prepare. If it’s not done right, it can get soggy and bitter. I have tried all the recommended techniques: “sweating” with lots of salt to remove the moisture, sautéing … (36 comments)

camas wa: Why did the Salamander Cross the Road in Camas, WA? - 01/21/15 02:12 AM
Why did the Salamander cross the road, well actually the sidewalk, in Camas?

We were treated to the rare sight of an adult Northwestern Salamander yesterday as we walked a four-mile loop around our Camas neighborhood. These interesting creatures are rarely seen as adults. Normally, they are hiding under a log or tucked underground in a rodent burrow for shelter from the weather and predators.  However, it’ll be breeding season soon, and this fellow(?) was likely migrating to an aquatic site. Eggs are laid in slow-moving streams, wetlands, ponds, and lakes.

Fortunately, the little critter didn’t seem too frightened … (36 comments)

camas wa: Downtown Camas Gets Ready For Another Active Year - 01/13/15 12:05 AM
Look For Special Events in Camas 2015 Calendar

We appreciate having an historic downtown area with shops, restaurants, and businesses we visit on a regular basis.  But we especially appreciate the special events sponsored by the Downtown Camas Association (DCA) and other organizations, including the City of Camas, and Camas Parks and Recreation.  They do a great job getting people downtown - rain or shine.
Just this week, the DCA published its 2015 Calendar of Signature Events scheduled throughout the year.  It makes me look forward to the activities that make Camas a special place, like Spring Planting Day in April, … (26 comments)

WellCity Awards Camas And Reduces Employee Health Premiums

You may have noticed we rave a lot about living in the Pacific Northwest, and in particular Camas WA. The area is not only beautiful, but is especially well-suited for outdoor activities and a healthy environment – things important to us.
Recently, we discovered a little-known program that underscores how this area values healthy work environments and active lifestyles. In fact, city employees in Camas enjoy reduced health insurance premiums when they meet the guidelines. It’s called “WellCity” – a program sponsored by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC), a professional association for cities, … (14 comments)

Tired of the Homes ( Little Boxes) on the Hillside in Camas, WA?

Our family frequently references the year my son, Nathan,  kept insisting he had already been at this house, or that one, while trick-or-treating in the Oregon suburbs. My sweet little 3 year old couldn’t tell the difference from the neighborhood houses, all the same - especially in the dark. It was difficult to discern between the green … (21 comments)

The Camas Boo Bash - 2014
Hurray, the grandkids from Alaska will be visiting us again this year during the Boo Bash in downtown Camas. The Boo Bash is a big trick or treat extravaganza for the entire family. Local businesses give out candy or neat prizes to the kiddos. And during the two hour event, October 29 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, the streets are closed to all car traffic.
Many of the shop owners are also in costume which adds to the fun for children. Speaking of children, it's a blast to see them in colorful Halloween costumes ( … (22 comments)

camas wa: Multi-Generational Homes in Clark County - Mikey Likes It! - 10/07/14 12:48 AM
Green Homes in Clark County Are A Family Matter
About a year ago, I wrote a blog about how a green business idea is sometimes slow to be adopted until someone else popularizes it.  Just like the classic Life cereal commercial: the two boys won’t try it until Mikey tries it first. But when “He Likes It!!” they jump in.

Just like Mikey, sometimes it takes a major organization to put money behind an idea before anyone else will follow. In this light, Lennar, one of the largest home builders in the country has been building its NextGenSM model – “The … (18 comments)
