st patricks day: Celebrating the Green on St. Patrick's Day - 03/17/19 08:39 AM

Wearing green on St. Patrick's Day is said to make one invisible to leprechauns and fairies. Otherwise, the mischievous woodland sprites will sneak up and pinch anyone who isn't wearing green today.

It's likely no surprise to learn we are celebrating the Green today, and everyday for that matter. We think it's too bad Mother Nature can't send out fairy creatures to pinch any of us who forget to honor the green/environment.

Regardless of how you celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we hope you take a moment to recognize the amazing power of green in our lives. Green spaces impact on our physical and mental health in profoundly positive ways.

st patricks day: A St. Patrick's Day Blessing from Our MultiGenerational Home in Camas - 03/17/18 12:40 PM

Last week's trip to the ER confirmed what our multigenerational household had already guessed. Dad's medical condition is worsening. Specifically, the medications they use to keep his heart going are damaging his kidneys, and so on.  His doctors tell us there is no going back, his heart is severely damaged and the rest of his organs are getting weaker.  It's a matter of time.

We feel extremely fortunate to have hospice involved in dad's care. They are a true life-line at this point and help us figure out the best way to keep him comfortable. Dad is more than ready for this final journey.  He wakes … (23 comments)

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Clark County

Nothing heralds Spring’s imminent arrival like the green we wear on St. Patrick’s Day. There are many kid-friendly and adult events throughout the day in Clark County. Here are just a few to consider:

Paddy Hough Neighborhood Parade

The 24th Annual Parade celebrates the Hough Neighborhood’s namesake, Paddy Hough, who was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1846 and was a popular leader and educator in Vancouver until 1925.  Starting at 12:30 p.m., the parade begins at Hough Elementary School, … (25 comments)

Pour a Pint of Guinness for All - Happy St. Patrick's Day 2014
Today, those of us with Irish blood, and plenty of those without, will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day - even it it is on a Monday this year. While not a big beer drinker, I’ll join my husband later this afternoon and raise a glass of Guinness.
This year, I’m especially proud to be toasting with a pint of Guinness. The brewery has decided it will not sponsor the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade because the event bans gays and lesbian rights supporters from marching.

st patricks day: St. Patrick's Day in Clark County, WA - Wear your Green proudly! - 03/17/13 12:19 AM
St. Patrick's Day in Clark County, WA - Wear your Green proudly! There are an estimated 55,600 residents in Clark County, WA who have ancestors from Ireland ( cheers to my Grandpa Laney).  That’s a bit higher than the nearly 54,300 who claim English ancestors, according to a recent United Census Bureau survey.
Naturally, on St. Patrick’s Day, many claim a bit of Irish blood. And, who cares?  Irish people are a friendly and welcoming lot and would be more than happy to make you a part of the family.  So, go ahead wear your green proudly today.

st patricks day: St. Patrick's Day - Raise a Pint of Guinness - 03/13/13 12:31 AM
St. Patrick's Day - Raise a Pint of Guinness Get ready to celebrate with leprechauns, shamrocks and beer - St. Patrick's Day is nearly here. The Irish holiday is Sunday March 17th, 2013. The best part, you don't need to be of Celtic heritage to take enjoy the fun.
This wee-bit-of-Irish lass ( my mother's dad emigrated from Ireland) will NOT be drinking any green beer. No Irish person I know would foul a beer with coloring. Instead, I'll raise a pint of Guinness and wish for good cheer.
Here are a few of my favorite Irish toasts  to inspire your … (28 comments)

st patricks day: Just say no to Green - beer, that is. - 03/16/12 10:13 AM
Just say no to green beer.  First of all, it's not very Irish. In Ireland, you won't find a respectable lad or lassie drinking beer infused with green dye - this weekend, or any other.
Authentic Irish pubs around the country won't be serving the colored swill this weekend either. They say nil, (no) to green beer, as it's only fit "for posers."
Instead, opt for the real deal. Here's a guide to some of the best ales and lagers brewed in Ireland. Erin' go brew.
Guinness - Irish Stout. The milkshake of beers. This is a rich and … (25 comments)
