winter: Almost Wordless Wednesday - Sunset's Winter Splendor - 02/27/19 07:33 AM
Last night, while talking to mom, it became obvious she was looking past me at some sight beyond the windows in our great room. Seeing the source of her distraction, I grabbed my cell phone and ran out to the deck. The 30 degree temperature and gusty Gorge winds didn't matter, the color and beauty of the sunset warmed my soul.  Here are photos of its various stages of winter spendor.

winter: California Dreaming on such a Winter's Day - 01/18/19 01:39 PM
First of all, let me begin by saying how much I love living in the Pacific Northwest. I really, really do. However, the month of January often finds me struggling with the blues. No doubt, because of all the grays. It's the one time of the year when I work to stave off a desire to climb back into bed and read all afternoon.

My sis even gifted me with a light box one year to help with my SAD symptoms. I didn't really notice a difference and gave up on it, perhaps too early.  I digress. At any rate, the best cure for … (22 comments)

winter: Almost Wordless Wednesday - Papa's Got a Brand New Bag - 12/19/18 08:42 AM

This Father Winter statue on our mantle reflects the outdoors. He reminds us of the seasonal beauty found during the winter months. In the bag, he carries pine cones, twigs, greenery, and berries - Nature's decorations. We wish you special moments to reflect on the beauty that surrounds us this time of year. Connect, breathe, and appreciate - all is calm, all is bright.

winter: A Moment in Nature - Dougan Falls on a Winter Day - 01/19/18 01:28 PM
The Washougal River
Washougal River Road is a scenic sixteen and half mile drive from downtown Washougal to Dougan Falls in Skamania County. It winds and curves along the banks of the Washougal River, so it takes longer to travel than the miles alone suggest. We love showing and selling the waterfront homes located along the Washougal. By the way, the name comes from the Cascade Chinook tribe and means "rushing waters." We think it's perfect.
Washougal River Waterfalls
There are series of water falls along the 33 mile stretch of the Washougal River. From lowermost to uppermost, the named falls on the river include Salmon, … (16 comments)

Time To Lighten Up!

No winter lasts forever, no spring skips its turn

When November rolls around in the Pacific Northwest, the days get noticeably shorter, especially with our recent time change. Last night, around the table at our multi-generational home, my parents both remarked that it's now dark at dinnertime. … (14 comments)

winter: Warm Winter Wishes from ViewHomes of Clark County - 12/22/16 01:55 PM
Kindness is like snow, it beautifies everything it covers. - Kahlil Gibran
We have been celebrating the holiday season with Nature As Neighbors™. December snow and cool temperatures have given us many delightful moments. We even caught ourselves dreaming of a White Christmas, and it’s likely going to come true. Not here in Clark County though, we’re heading to Bend, Oregon tomorrow to spend Christmas with our son’s family. There’s so much more magic in the air when you celebrate the holidays with children. We did want to take a moment to thank you for your support, business, and in some cases, friendship. … (15 comments)

winter: Owl be home for Christmas - Clark County, WA owls - 12/11/12 10:56 PM
Owl be home for Christmas - Clark County, WA owls. There’s an owl making itself at home in our Christmas tree this year.  Actually, it’s a replica of a snowy owl. Since my roots include years spent in Alaska, the beautiful white bird reminds me of home and brings back fond memories.
Snowy owls make their real home in the Arctic tundra including Alaska and Canada. Their white feathers not only help to hide them from predators, but gives them an ethereal look - almost magical. Think of Hedwig in the Harry Potter series.

winter: Jack Frost Visits Camas, Washington - 11/20/11 03:03 AM
Jack Frost paid us a visit. We woke up to a light frost this morning in Camas, Washington. A lacey white coat covers the trees and the roof tops are frosted too. The ground is crisp and foot steps crunch in the frozen grass.
This former Alaskan loves snow, and a good frost gives just a hint of winter's magical white blanket. We're lucky to get a couple of inches of snowfall a few times each winter in Camas, so frost can be exciting too.
Jack Frost pays us a visit when solid surfaces are cooled to below the dew point … (18 comments)
