YouTube Thursdays - June 17, 2021  Revisiting Thumbnails

Last year, we wrote a two-part series about video thumbnails, and why it's better to upload a custom thumbnail rather than use one of the default options offered by YouTube.

If you missed the series, here are links to those YouTube Thursdays posts.

YouTube Thursdays October 15, 2020 - Thumbnails!

YouTube Thursdays - October 22, 2020 - More Thumbnails

In the "More Thumbnails" post, we mention using Canva to create custom thumbnails for our YouTube videos.

Therefore, this week, Kathleen … (30 comments)

YouTube Thursdays - Wildfires in the Pacific Northwest

Heavy smoke and hazardous air quality at our home in Camas remind us of wildfires burning in California, Oregon and Washington. People can't seem to agree as to the why, but changing weather patterns obviously come into play. Increasing temperatures, drought conditions, and gusty, erratic winds create the perfect wildfire storm, so to speak.

We have been housebound for a week now due to the air quality. Honestly, aside from Finnegan's (Our 5.5 month old golden retriever puppy) pent up energy, we feel lucky. After all, we have a home. Our hearts ache for the people who lost theirs … (48 comments)

YouTube Thursdays - Video Playlists

Today, we're happy to highight AR member, Joe Manausa. Joe recently wrote a helpful post about embedding a playlist, instead of just a video, into your blog posts. The goal, of course, is to get viewers watching more of your videos.  It's a great idea, and here is his tutorial.

However, unlike Joe, I (Debb) use the video embed option. It's the button between the add photo and special character options.  It's quick and easy.

However, when using Classy Nemisis embed generator to get rid of outside video suggestions at the end of this four video playlist - it didn't work. I'll keep … (31 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - Branding on the Brain - 10/31/19 09:47 AM
YouTube Thursdays -

Branding, branding, branding.

If there's one thing we've learned about Branding, it's the importance of consistency, clear messaging, and staying true to what you represent. It helps build trust. In our opinion, some key Active Rain members who best illustrate these principles are Ron and Alexandra Seigel and Barbara Todaro.  If you don't follow their blogs, you should. Otherwise, you're missing valuable tips and knowledge free for the reading.
As we continue reviewing our marketing hits and misses for 2019, branding videos will continue to have a big place in our plans for 2020. However, we will likely be refining the process to ensure the videos are distributed … (51 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - Adding Subscribers to Your Channel - 06/28/18 11:07 AM

This week, we take a break from video production tips to encourage you to do some mutual subscribing to each other's YouTube Channels.
The concept is very similar to Anita Clark 's efforts for Facebook Fridays. After all, you'll get a lot more credibility with viewers ( and video views ) on your video channel.

In addition, take a minute or two once a week to like or comment on  mutual subscribers' recent videos. Liking a video puts it on a playlist in your channel and increases the odds of the video getting more views.
Here are a few suggestions for today. And thanks in advance.
First, Laura Filip. Laura is currently trying to … (40 comments)

YouTube Thursdays - Just for Fun Videos

Last week, we encouraged you to have some fun with videos. First, taking the time to consider topics that matter to the core clients in your niche. Not only are you building a library of entertaining videos, you are showcasing a bit of your own personality - as well as the non-real estate related amenities in your marketplace. Plus, if it's fun, and of interest, you're likely to find it easier to get it done.
As with all video production, you need to remember the basics. Steady camera work ( no shaking and fast panning, please), decent lighting and audio … (44 comments)

Branding Opportunity - YouTube Videos
Admittedly, I love Vimeo, it's clean ad-free platform for videos is tough to beat - aesthetically. However, for SEO, YouTube still has the upper hand - after all, Google owns the site. Therefore, I'm using both hosting platforms for my videos.
Recently, I was checking out some of the features on my YouTube Channel and accidently stumbled upon the option to add a watermark to my videos. Now, all of my videos have a small watermark of our Nature As Neighbors logo in the right hand corner. The best part, when viewer hovers over the watermark, he/she can … (42 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - Vimeo Thursdays? - 10/07/15 11:39 PM
Where is the best home for your videos?
Earlier this week, my favorite couple from the Q,  John McCormack and Debbie contacted me to ask some questions regarding their YouTube account. Specifically, why one of my YouTube videos counts down and appears to notify the viewer of an upcoming video (also mine)? They are frustrated because other videos are automatically featured at the end of theirs.
In this case, I think they may be watching videos of mine in a playlist. The autoplay loads the next video in the series immediately. It's better than a competitors video, but in my opinion, it would be better if the … (38 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - Vimeo or YouTube for Real Estate Marketing? - 06/11/15 01:47 AM
YouTube Thursdays - Vimeo or YouTube for Real Estate?

There is a lot of discussion about Vimeo. Rightfully so, paid accounts on Vimeo allow subscribers to feature beautifully smooth and clean looking videos without any clutter. It’s a supportive community of professionals and caters to niche topics.
If you want videos for business support or content pages, Vimeo is a great choice. In my opinion, real estate agents in the luxury niche should use Vimeo almost exclusively. However, YouTube is still a great platform and a good place to start your video marketing efforts.

Here are the basic differences:

Viewers Per Month

YouTube Thursdays Interactive Videos - Choose Your Own Adventure
Interactive videos are similar to a choose your own adventure story.  It’s a great way to engage viewers - and keep them engaged.   I can envision this as being a very powerful tool for REALTORS®. Imagine the ability to have viewers touch the door to enter a home. Or, flip a switch to turn on a gas fireplace. Perhaps they’d rather go straight to the backyard to view a pool, the tennis court, or the stunning views. You get the idea.
First of all, here’s an example of an interactive Real Estate video. Be … (33 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - 4K Ultra HD - The Future of Video? - 09/11/14 01:26 AM
4K-Ultra HD - The Future of Video
One of our favorite TV shows, House of Cards is now shot in 4K Ultra HD. ( Simply put, 4K quadruples the number of pixels found in a full HD picture.)  Late last year, Netflixs announced its intent to start streaming 4K content for it highly rated House of Cards, Season 2.
However to enjoy superior picture quality, in addition to having an UHD TV, you’ll also need an Internet connection of at least 15.6 megabits per second for the Neflix 4K stream - plus you’ll want to move your couch closer to the screen.  ( … (53 comments)

YouTube Thursdays - Won’t you be my Neighbor-hood Video?
Want to tap into a great SEO resource?  Create a series of videos featuring the neighborhoods you want to sell. Anita Clark offers proof of how successful these videos can be for winning clients - both buyers and sellers. In addition, when you help buyers or sellers in the neighborhood, you can add the video to your “just sold” blog post and reap new benefits. Anita does it all the time and her presentation is always impressive.
When you search for “Prune Hill View Homes, Camas” two of my posts still show up on … (36 comments)

YouTube Thursdays - Improving the Odds of getting your Videos to Rank

If you’ve taken the leap and you’re using the power of video marketing for your business, good job. However, make sure you’re doing what you can to optimize your video views and channel activity. It’s the only way to gain credibility with YouTube and Google.
Long Video Descriptions - YouTube and Google rely on the text surrounding videos. The more they know about your video, the greater the odds of ranking it for your target market. Remember that word, “authority?” It really does matter, and Google will … (47 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays 3/15/2012 - What marketing videos can do for you. - 03/15/12 04:11 AM
Video is where the action is - literally. If you haven't yet used videos as part of your marketing plan, here are a few reasons why you should.

What marketing videos can do for you.
Introduce yourself. A video allows you to present yourself, and your services, to potential clients in a personal and engaging manner.
;
Establish yourself. Videos can help you build your areas of expertise.

Added value. How-to or teaching videos can be used for websites, emails and e-newsletters. This can be business, or lifestyle related.

B2B Videos. Feature your trusted … (35 comments)

youtube: YouTube Thursdays - 3/1/2012 - Videos help you sell Lifestyles. - 02/29/12 11:49 PM

Today, YouTube Thursdays salutes video home tours that sell a lifestyle. Why show a lovely series of photos showcasing a home's amenities when you can take your viewers to another level?
Videos which allow viewers to embrace a lifestyle become very powerful tools. Imagine, not only seeing yourself in a particular home, but "feeling and experiencing" what it's like to live there.
We all know that today's sophisticated home buyers use the internet when searching for homes. The latest statistics indicate that 7 out of 10 homes watch up to five hours of videos per week. Real Estate marketing … (53 comments)
