Watterson Hall in Bastrop Texas is an awesome dance hall that has been around for years. Located in between Hwy 21 and Hwy 304 on Watterson Road the dance hall is not open all the time but when it is, it sure is fun! We went to the annual Christmas dance on the 25th and it was packed. Admission was minimal and the band was super. We danced the night away. Burgers and beer are available. Keep it in mind if you are looking for a good dance place!

Cedar Hills, Elgin, Bastrop County Texas - 12/29/08 05:07 PM
Cedar Hills is a small rural subdivision located just outside of Elgin in Bastrop county in Texas. There are two entries in to the Cedar Hills off of Highway 95. Cedar Hills has light restrictions and no mobile homes are allowed. The roads are paved. There is lots of natural privacy created by all of the Cedar trees in the subdivision and there is a lovely private park area with a small pond for the residents. ColoVista is a development just outside of Bastrop is one of the best kept secrets in Texas I think. Once a private estate, the original Texas ranch house is now a drop dead gorgeous club house with an infinity pool and there is a beautiful golf course that wanders thru the original estate. Beautiful custom homes line the roads and the golf course in the pines and down into the prairie by the Colorado River. I live within 2 miles of Colo Vista, one of the reasons we bought our ranch! Indian Lake is a gem of an area if you are looking for somewhere to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The entry to Indian Lakes is located off of FM 153 just a few miles outside of Smithville, approx. 45 minutes from Austin and an hour plus from San Antonio or Houston. The subdivision has a pool, park, fishing dock, boat ramp and a very relaxed atmosphere. There is a mixed bag of housing both site built and manufactured. Tahitian Village is a development just outside of Bastrop on Highway 71. The entry in to Tahitian Village is right at the Loop/95/21 light and is pretty well marked - Tahitian Drive. There are light restrictions in the subdivision and no mfg. homes are allowed. Most of the roads are paved and most of the lots have electric, water, sewer, and phone service to the lot lines. But some do not and most recently there have been some restrictions placed on the necessary size of lots to be developed with septic systems. If you are not looking for it the entry into Doty River Estates on Norma Jean Blvd you might pass right by it. Located just off of Highway 71 between Bastrop and Smithville Doty River Estates is a small rural subdivision nestled along the Colorado River. If you are driving out there and you pass La Cabana one of the great local restaurants you have missed it! The subdivision has paved roads, and is horse friendly. Lake Thunderbird is a subdivision built around a private community lake located approx. 8 miles outside of Smithville Texas. Highlights of this subdivision are the paved roads, lake access, community center, playground, pool. This is a perfect place for a summer vacation home as it has great access from the Austin, Houston, and San Antonio areas. There is even a convenience store right at the entry for those last minute items you might forget to pick up as you are heading home, or for some worms or hooks if you need some fishing supplies. River Crossing is a subdivision located between Austin and Bastrop in the Cedar Creek area. The entry is off of Old Hwy 71 which runs in a loop on the north side of Highway 71. River Crossing is a covenant protected community with site built homes and some building restrictions. If you are a horse enthusiast looking for a horse friendly community outside of Austin consider looking at this subdivision. The Colony is a sudivision located just off Highway 71 in the Cedar Creek area of Bastrop County Texas. The Colony has paved roads and estate sized lots. Restrictions apply which include minimum sq. ft. of site built homes. No mfg. homes are allowed. The Colony offers community buildings and recreation areas, paved roads, and is horse friendly. La Reata Ranch in the Rosanky area of Bastrop County Texas is a rural residential subdivision offering larger lots/acreage located approx. 15 miles outside of Bastrop in the area of Rosanky on Highway 304. La Reata has light covenanants allowing only site built homes. The roads are paved, there is a community park area, and convenient community mailboxes. Bastrop is 15 minutes away and Austin is about 45 minutes away.

If you own a horse and you live in Central Texas you have to visit South Texas Tack in Brenham Texas! Located on Highway 290 East South Texas Tack has about 10,000 sq. ft. of horse stuff! A big box store for all of us horse addicts! Grooming supplies, supplements, tack of all kinds, buckets, halters, lead ropes, spurs, blankets, wormers, vaccinations....you name it they have it. If you are looking for something to do today and tonight jump in your vehichle and head over to Smithville Texas. There will be lots happening, plenty for everyone to enjoy. The morning starts out with a Fun Run at 9 am. Then the arts and crafts show begins at 10 am which will run until around 5pm. There will be train rides, a petting zoo, pony rides, and Santa will be there for the kids. Plenty of shopping along the main street stores as the merchants display their goodies! This weekend my husband and I attended our friends wedding in Bastrop Texas. After the wedding and reception at the church downtown we all changed out of our Sunday go to meeting clothes into some good ole jeans and boots and met at the Watterson Dance Hall which is located on 304 between Bastrop and Red Rock. Watterson Dance Hall has been around for lots of years and is a great place to go for some live music and dancing.
