bastrop: Surviving the Bastrop Fire September 2011 - 03/08/12 05:34 AM
March 8, 2012  I just found this blog in my Drafts folder unpublished from last Fall when Bastrop TX experienced a massive wildfire. I thought it was still worth publishing even much after the fact.  One thing it might do is help people who live in a piney area understand how important creating a defendable space is and that you should always be prepared.

October 2011
We were only evacuated, we did not loose our home, for that I am forever thankful.  We were south of Bastrop visiting friends when we got a call from one of my Clients … (2 comments)

bastrop: 249 Pine Hill Loop Bastrop TX 78602 - 12/03/10 09:30 AM
Here is a short video presentation of  249 Pine Hill Loop, a mfg. home on a little over one acre in the lost pines area in Bastrop Texas.  Located in a very small subdivision that is surrounded on three sides by the Bastrop State Park.  Access is very easy just of Hwy 71 which is a main through fare from Austin and Houston through Bastrop.  The home is older but has potential.  It might make a great rental property or perhaps a good purchase for a future custom home in the pines.  For more information and Buyer Representation contact Sky Realty.

bastrop: Austin area Bark Parks - our puppy Edsel loves them! - 11/27/10 05:35 AM
Back in April my husband and I were strolling up Congress Avenue in Austin and we stopped in to the Austin Pets Alive location to visit with the dogs who were looking for new homes.  Austin Pets Alive rescues dogs that are in dire situations.  Being dog lovers ourselves we always stop by when we are in town to at least make a small donation and give the resuced dogs a little love.  We had ZERO intantions on adopting a dog that day but....there was a very special puppy there...and ....well....you know the rest.

Our newest addition is Edsel a … (2 comments)

bastrop: Riverside Grove in Bastrop Texas - 09/14/10 01:20 PM

Riverside Grove is a nice subdivision centrally in Bastrop.  One of the benefits of living in the subdivision is that  it is within walking distrance from two Bastrop ISD schools.  The subdivision has single and two story homes on lots, the roads are paved with sidewalks and curbs.  There is an active homeowners association.  On my Riverside Grove page on my website you can search for homes for sale.  If you have a home in Bastrop that you would like to list or sell or if you are interested in leasing or purchasing a home visit my website and … (0 comments)

bastrop: Bastrop is a Distintive Destination for Historic Homes - 09/09/10 07:59 AM
Bastrop Texas is one of the Distinctive Destinations for historic and vintage homes with over 100 homes and buildings.  Bastrop is proud of it's history and heritage and during the holidays in the past the Bastrop Historical society has put together a  Holiday Homes tour which is a great opportunity to see these period homes in their holiday's finest.   There is a downtown area with historic buildings that falls in between Walnut, Spring, Water, and Church Streets,  Many of the historic homes are located on Main, Pecan, Church, and Chestnut Streets.  The Old Iron Bridge that crosses the Colorado and welcomes … (1 comments)

bastrop: Bluebonnet Electric Coop moving towards sustainable/renewable energy in Bastrop - 08/22/10 10:21 AM
Bastrop County is serviced by Bluebonnet Electric Coop and is only a part of the large service area that falls in between Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.  The Capital City of Austin which is only 35 miles away  is a very Eco/environmentally friendly/green thinking city in Travis County serviced by Austin Energy. This area of Bastrop has not had any  green or Eco friendly alternatives to energy consumption until recently when Bluebonnet Electric adopted a net metering policy in the first step towards addressing energy use for existing clients as well as future clients.
Bluebonnet will be working actively with … (0 comments)

bastrop: River Crossing in Cedar Creek in Bastrop County Texas - 08/20/10 02:57 PM
River Crossing is a beautiful subdivision that is equine friendly located between Austin and the town of Bastrop along Hwy 71.  I recently sold a beautiful custom home on a couple of acres in the lower portion of the subdivision that offered some flat pasture land and some native tree cover.  Currently I have two lots listed in the first phase of the subdivision that would be great spots for a new Texas ranch home! Check out River Crossing Information website just recently posted for map, pictures, and HOA information.  Visit my website for a current  list of River Crossing  homes … (0 comments)

bastrop: I love Central Texas winters but I do miss some things... - 10/28/09 07:30 AM
Here in the Bastrop area southeast of Austinin Central Texas we do experience some of the "seasons".  For example right now the nights are getting cooler and we are getting some fall rain showers.  There are some local Post Oak  trees mixed in with all the beautiful pines that will shed their leaves so we do get a bit of fall foliage but nothing like what you might see in Upper State New York - I have made that trek specifically for the turning of the leaves there ... and it is awesome, or up in the Rockies  - a local trek we … (1 comments)

bastrop: Hay prices in Bastrop County may ( stress may..) drop a little this month. - 06/04/09 07:15 AM
I am a horse owner/breeder and I live in down on the Colorado River in Bastrop County Texas between Bastrop and Smithville.  Normally I bale my own hay as a share crop and I put up my one third to feed my horses, but with our recent drought I have not been able to cut any hay for the last year.  With any luck and a little more rain that may change and my fingers are crossed! In the meantime I have had to dry feed my horse stock and this last winter that was a bit of a challenge as … (1 comments)

bastrop: A pointed but comical response from horse owners on the end of slaughter and transport in the United States. - 04/16/08 07:00 AM
An email came to me this morning, and I have attached the content below, from another avid horse  enthusiast and breeder (like myself).  Although the whole issue is very sad, I did get a bit of a chuckle out of it and decided I had to publish it. Of course I realize that  the content of this  post might upset a few of those kind hearted souls out there who want to save every horse ....... but someone needs to point out the other side of this issue and this post does so comically and pointedly at the same time.  Hopefully it might give those non-owners, who … (8 comments)

bastrop: Good Morning and Good Year............ - 01/03/08 07:31 AM
Okay so we are a couple of days into this New Year and I am excited to have left '07 behind.  This morning's sunrise here in Bastrop County Texas  was so stunning, and so inspiring, I had to share it with you all.
In this sunrise I see hope reigning  over despair, good over evil, happy over sad,  love over hate,  beautiful new beginnings, and a chance to try to make a difference today that I could not make yesterday.
Can you see what I see?

bastrop: Colorado River in Central Texas between Bastrop and Smithville - 09/28/07 08:57 AM

Although the Colorado River can rage at times, especially after 18 inches of rain in one night upstream, this morning it was meandering down towards the Gulf leisurely.  In this part of Central Texas in Bastrop County  the Colorado River winds through many counties.  Management is through the Lower Colorado River Association.  Fishing can be very good, and a license is required.  Kayaking and canoing have been a very popular past time.  There are local companies in Bastrop that rent out kayaks and canoes and have planned routes for the public to enjoy.  Down along the river you will find large … (0 comments)
