One of the things that I love about this area of Central Texas, here in Bastrop, is the stunning sunsets we get almost every evening. These pictures were taken just last week from my horse ranch down along the Colorado River between Bastrop and Smithville from my back patio. Each sunset is so very different! Just had to share them.

Colo Vista was once a private estate located in the pines a few miles outside of Bastrop Texas. The highlight of this Central Texas estate was it's 15,000 sq. ft. greek revival residence that had a 22 ft. ceiling, marble floors, and Waterford Crystal chandeliers.
Subdivided the residence and approx. 10 acres became a beautiful club house for the Colo Vista Golf Course. Lots were platted and sold along the course.

With the weather cooling off here in Bastrop Texas I got a huge craving for some good old fashioned hearty mac and cheese. Nothing is better on a chilly evening that some comfort food!
I have a recipe that my Mom gave me years ago but it was nothing fancy and it seemed to be lacking some gusto ( I love my Mom but sometimes her cooking is a little plain...) so I found this recipe in the latest issue of Southern Living - my new most favorite magazine.

When I opened up the Sky Realty BASTROP office last year the previous tenant had a list of items they were selling and one of them was a 4' x 8' lighted arrow sign with a big box of numbers and letters. With the office just off of Highway 71 West (between Bastrop and Smithville ) I could not resist the purchase. The sign wasn't new by any means but it was in good shape and for the money I was pretty sure it was worth the investment.

We are so excited that Bastrop is getting a new Bark Park! If you are a dog owner/lover you know how awesome a dog park is! It took me a long time to understand why dogs don't fight at a dog park...and that is because the park does not belong to any one dog! They are all a bit out of their element there and they can bring down their defensive barriers and just socialize! I am a horse owner/breeder and I live in down on the Colorado River in Bastrop County Texas between Bastrop and Smithville. Normally I bale my own hay as a share crop and I put up my one third to feed my horses, but with our recent drought I have not been able to cut any hay for the last year. With any luck and a little more rain that may change and my fingers are crossed! There s a really lovely river walk in Bastrop TX that meanders along the bank of the Colorado river on the east side between the Highway 71 bridge Ferry Park - and the Loop 230 bridge and Fisherman's Park in to town. You can park and access the river walk either down behind the Wells Fargo Bank, or at either Park entry. During the Christmas Holiday season there is a Light Parade that is fun to enjoy at night. Every day I drive by some of the most beautiful old oak trees that have been growing along side Alum Creek TX for more years than I have been on this planet! These trees are so stately looking from the road I have to suppress the urge to stop the car, hop the fence, and to get a closer look. Update - Scooters has closed. Bastrop does have a number of other wonderful spots to grab a cup of coffee like Maxine's on Main Street, and Coffee Dog and Starbucks up near Hwy 71.
