Charlotte Real Estate Recovery Even Felt at Local Grocer - Q3 Earnings Significantly Improved
The Harris Teeter grocery chain and thread company American & Efird, reported yesterday that despite the bad news in the stock market, Ruddick’s subsidiaries is showing significant increases in revenue.  Ruddick’s subsidiaries increased its third-quarter revenue, rising to $1.19 billion.
The $32 million profit for the quarter is up 11 percent from 2010. The 204-store Harris Teeter chain revenue increased 8% as compared to the same quarter last year, to $1.1 billion.  Sales at stores open a year or more rose 4.4 percent.

According to CNN Money Magazine and the latest census data release, population growth during the last decade made the South the fastest-growing region in the US.  Eight of the 11 metropolitan areas noted as highest in population growth including Austin, Charlotte, Raleigh and Orlando, were in the South.  The top three metropolitan areas were:

BAE Systems, Inc. Bringing 176 New Jobs to Charlotte NC Governor, Beverly Perdue, announced today that BAE Systems, Inc. will bring 176 new jobs to the Charlotte area over the next three years, as well as investing $3 million in their new internal human resources and finance headquarters.  The move is planned for the second quarter of 2011 but, an office location has not yet been determined. My personal feeling is that BOA isn’t going anywhere!  Does it really matter where the CEO lives?  In this day and time, with all of our technological advances and the increasing ability to do our jobs from the office, our homes or the beach and the video conferencing capabilities that we so often use, I can't imagine why this topic has gotten Charlotte residents so up in arms over the location of the new CEO of Bank of America.

Our Uptown Charlotte area is thankfully, still going strong!  Uptown Charlotte NC:  No Vacancy?  Well check out these recent statistics:  we've gone from a 16.6% Uptown vacancy rate in 2005 to an UNDER 1% rate in 2008 Q2; we seem to be bursting at the seams!  Landlords in the Uptown area are confident, reflecting that they're getting a solid $30./square foot, a significant increase over last year.  Contractors & developers are also very confident and most are continuing to build.  Some builders/developers even some saying, "We just can't seem to build fast enough!"

S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices released today show Charlotte as the sole metro area to see 1Q home-price gains: Charlotte was the only U.S. metropolitan area to record a first-quarter gain in housing prices among the 20 markets tracked by Standard & Poor's and Case-Shiller. The year-over-year price of existing single-family homes in Charlotte rose 0.8% in the latest reported quarter, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.
Nationally, first-quarter prices declined 14.1 percent from a year earlier in the cities the index tracks. The Queen City is the only market with appreciation over the past year, returning +0.8%. In … (8 comments)
