volunteerism: Simmons YMCA Has A New Playground, Thanks to Local Rotary Club Volunteers - 07/13/09 10:33 AM
Charlotte NC's Meck-South Rotary Club 'Pitches In' Again! Simmons YMCA in Charlotte NC (6824 Democracy Drive) needed a new playground and many area volunteers didn't think twice about helping to build it!  Some of the volunteers included those from my own, Meck-South Rotary Club.  Bill Woodruff, our Service Projects Chairman, did a wonderful job of rising to the challange of a late call to help!  He coordinated many of our members to plan and oversee much of the playground's new construction.  We're proud to say that the project is complete and now Simmons YMCA has a new KaBoom! playground!

volunteerism: A Day to Remember--Paying it Forward - 12/19/08 10:33 PM
A Day to Remember--Paying it Forward Saturday I participated with my Rotary club's traditional 'bell ringing' for the Salvation Army at our local Harris Teeter store at the Arboretum.  It was a chilly afternoon but, my friend Pat and his son and I, dressed in layers and drank plenty of hot coffee & hot chocolate from the coffee shop next door.  The people came in droves into the grocery store (why I never go on Saturdays)!

What impressed me was that this year, unlike the others that I've done this, we had people donating large bills and many more … (38 comments)

'Tis the Season... ...To share your hearts and souls with those in need.   I have been blessed with good friends who always encourage me to keep doing what I'm doing and never look down OR back!  I have to say that one of the best things that a good friend did for me a few years ago was to introduce me to Rotary International.  I visited, participated in a couple of their club's events and decided to join.  The main focus for our club is to help children in need.  (We have a great time too!)
