simple living: NEW TREND OR RETURN CUSTOM? - 01/07/09 11:36 PM
In "the good old days" many people had a very short commute to work. They lived above or behind the commercial endeavor they ran. Apartments above grocery stores, eateries and bars were not uncommon for much of urban history. Before Agribusiness there was the family farm.People lived on the land they worked, even or maybe especially, if they were sharecroppers. As people look for ways to reduce time spent commuting live/work spaces are making a comeback. simple living: Little House on a Small Planet - 06/04/07 08:12 PM
For anyone looking for information and inspiration regarding small homes, this is a great book. It will not give you how tos or blueprints but it will give you insight into the hearts and philosophy of people who are intentionally living in smaller homes. It provides some information abou the nuts and bolts of why and how but it is mostly an exploration of why and a journey through many demonstrations of what people can do if they choose to. For anyone who felt helpless, hopeless or frustrated after watching or reading AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH here is a book that demonstrates hope.

My blog is as much about a philosophy of life and living as it is about real estate as a business. E.F. Shumacher subtitled his book SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL "Economics as if People Mattered" In the real estate industry we realize that people matter and that where they live matters. We now also have a larger responsiblity, I believe, to get them to consider HOW they live. Everyone in the developed world using less energy and resources makes it possible for those who have access to neither to experience a better life and to make the difference between their being able to having a roof overhead or not or for their children to eat or not.
