I read in the news today that $4 billion in rebate checks has been sent out so far.  That's amazing to me!  I can't even fathom that amount of money.
I believe the government wants us to buy something with this money in order to stimulate the economy.  I wish I … (18 comments)

Yippee! Right? Maybe not... - 05/30/08 08:41 AM
I heard that oil prices went down $4 a barrel the other day!  Great news!!  Right?  At least, that's what I thought. I thought that gas prices were directly related to the price of oil.  Right? If this is the case, then why did gas prices shoot up 13 cents over night?  … (12 comments)

What's the matter with kids, today? - 05/28/08 08:03 AM
The other day, I saw a McDonald's commercial.  It said, "Get up and play an hour a day!" Is it just me, or does this strike anyone else as "sad"?  Kids today need to be encouraged by a commercial to PLAY? I don't know about you, but when I was a … (12 comments)

Wake Forest makes standardized tests optional. - 05/27/08 09:57 AM
I heard this on the news this morning.  Wake Forest University will no longer require applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score, beginning with the freshman class of 2009.  They seem to think that these scores do not adequately reflect all applicants' abilities.
They say that the tests can even be … (3 comments)

Rescue Me! - 05/27/08 09:45 AM
Well, not me exactly.  But, in the St. Charles county area, there were 15 car rescues since Sunday, May 25th!
That's right...With all of this rain we have been getting, there has been flash flooding.
There was a young lady from our church who was driving on Highway 61.  She said … (0 comments)

A B c d E f G ...? - 05/25/08 01:14 PM
All right.  I admit it.  I'm confused, not up with the times, and all that...  But...  What is it with all these letters put together that don't make any sense?
I know what "LOL" means - "Laugh Out Loud", and "BF" is pretty easy - "Best Friend".  But, beyond these...I have … (5 comments)

Ron Paul? - 05/23/08 08:05 AM
Does anybody know anything about Ron Paul?  I haven't heard much about him, but I think he will be on the ticket this fall.
I'm not convinced Obama, Hillary, or McCain can represent me, so I'm looking for other options...
What does Ron Paul stand for?  Is there a web site … (7 comments)

Dangerous night at the ballpark! - 05/22/08 11:51 AM
Albert Pujols had a rough night last night.  He played well, but two of the San Diego Padres were hurt.
Pujols hit a line drive and hit the pitcher Chris Young in the face.  Young suffered a broken and lacerated nose.  When Pujols stopped at first base, he went to check … (6 comments)

I was just trying to save money... - 05/21/08 09:11 PM

Vaccinations can be very expensive...Even for horses!  The stable where I board
my horse has several horses.  So, we decided to buy our vaccines in bulk and
administer them ourselves.  This would save us each over $100!  Great idea!
You know how you hold the the syringe … (9 comments)

An Encouraging Word... - 05/19/08 09:48 PM
Have you ever listened to Dr. Charles Stanley?  He is a preacher on a radio program called "In Touch".  I really appreciate him.
He has a way of sharing God's Word and speaking to your heart.  This morning, he was talking about our perception of the Lord.  He's not a distant, … (7 comments)

Devastation in China. - 05/19/08 02:50 PM
I heard on the news this morning that the victims of the earthquake has risen to 32,000.  They say that the victims could actually be up to 80,000!
That is just unfathomable to me.  An earthquake that registers 7.9 on the Richter scale can cause so much devastation.
It's times like these … (2 comments)

Big Brown does it again! - 05/18/08 04:42 PM
Did anybody see the Preakness?  Big Brown was so majestic, and he seemed to have won with such ease! He finished 5 1/4 lengths ahead of Macho Again.  He finished the Kentucky Derby 4 3/4 lengths ahead of the others.  Can anybody beat him?  As of now, he is undefeated. I … (3 comments)

Great News! - 05/16/08 09:53 AM
I just heard on the news this morning that construction of new homes rose 8.2 percent in April!  Isn't that great?  They said that this is the largest monthly advance in more than 2 years.  It is largely due to an increase in apartment construction, but hey, we'll take what … (0 comments)

Too much of a good thing...? - 05/14/08 09:02 PM
The St. Louis county, Missouri and St. Charles county, Missouri areas are having the wettest spring in recorded history.  If your basement is ever going to leak, now is probably when it will do it.
If you're trying to sell your home (and even if you're not), make sure the sump pump … (6 comments)

I can truly be myself with you.  I don't have to be fakey or try to be somebody I'm not.
I can tell you how I really feel about things.  You … (10 comments)

Just a little piece of land? Please? - 05/09/08 05:19 PM
Okay.  Gas is getting pretty pricey.  I'm not doing any unneccessary driving...Driving is part of my livelihood.  I am cutting back on my driving, but I can only cut back so much in my line of work.
My question is - Can't we use some land in Alaska (or wherever) to … (6 comments)

More Rain...? - 05/07/08 12:31 PM
It looks like the St. Louis, MO area is expecting much more rain in the next 24 hours.  Most of us are supposed to see 2 to 3 inches.  However, some of the area can expect up to 5 inches!
Is it my imagination, or is this unusual?  In March, we … (4 comments)

Eight Belles Tragedy - 05/03/08 05:47 PM
I was watching the Kentucky Derby this afternoon.  I like to watch the preliminary footage, because I want to get to know the horses and their backgrounds.  Then I like to pick my favorite.
This year, they didn't seem to give as much background as they have in the past.  I, of course, liked … (17 comments)

Slow down! - 05/02/08 02:48 PM
I figured something out the other day...
I drive a Ford 500.  I have been getting around 20 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving.
I heard something on the news recently - Driving 55-60 mph on the highway gets you better gas mileage than driving faster.  So, I decided to test it … (20 comments)

Serious injury averted... - 05/01/08 05:56 PM
I had kind of a scare today.  My daughter and I went to the ranch to ride our horses.  While she had her horse (Kayley) tied to the hitching post, Kayley spooked.
She actually broke the hitching post and pulled it out of the ground which, of course, spooked her more.  The hitching … (8 comments)
