Cool Color Tool From HP- Interactive Color Zeitgeist - 10/29/08 10:00 AM
                                             Interactive Color Zeitgeist
This is a very cool tool from HP that allows you to type in the name of a color, and it will give you the RGB equivalant for that color, as well as showing related colors. The list of colors was based on 25,000 colors collected from a three month query of their online color thesaurus. As you continue clicking on colors, other related colors are listed and it goes on and on. It's called the Interactive Color Zeitgeist, and was featured on the hp idealab.
How would you use this tool? … (11 comments)

Backyard Deer May thru August - He's a Six Pointer! - 10/28/08 11:23 AM
We had several deer hanging out in our Woodland Park backyard this year, as well as the occasional group of elk, fox, and racoons. Whenever I saw them, I grabbed the camera and ran out to take photos. The deer hung out on a daily basis, from May to August, and gave me plenty of 'Kodak Moments". I began to refer to them as "my boys", and it was fun to watch as they matured. I was excited to realise that I had two 6 pointers, one 5X6, one 5X4, and one goofy guy that was a 2X4! These are a … (6 comments)

Anti Virus Mogul McAfee - Woodland Park, Co Estate Up For Auction Again - 10/24/08 07:46 PM

McAfee Estate in Woodland Park, Co Goes Back on the Auction Block

In the spring of 2007, I had the opportunity to tour the 290 acre property and home of anti-virus mogul, John McAfee. OMG! What an amazing little homestead! John himself conducted the tour of Real Estate professionals prior to the auction in May that would result in the sale of the property for 5.72 million. A disappointment, surely, for McAfee, as bidding was to start at 15 million. Even so, it was the highest priced sale in the region. I was expecting to meet a "geeky" … (11 comments)

Mortgage Backed Securities, Explained in Plain (hysterically plain) English! - 10/23/08 01:28 PM

So often, the political and economic activities of our day are difficult, at best, to understand. I received this email today, (author unknown), which very clearly, and in plain English, explains "Mortgage Backed Securities". I certainly found it helpful and I felt it important to share with you, so that you too, can become clear on this issue!

Hayman Fire, Colorado's Largest - Photographs Of The Forest Now - 10/23/08 12:45 PM

The Hayman Fire began on  June 8, 2002 and burned until July 2, 2002, nearly an entire month. Almost 138,000 acres burned, and the fire cost $1 billion to fight.  It was the largest fire in Colorado history.
In all, 133 homes were destroyed, 1 commercial building, and 466 outbuildings. In ONE day only, 60,000 acres burned, and at one point burned 1/2 mile in just 4 minutes due to the "perfect" fire conditions at the time. The fire was  caused by arson. Those of us living in the area watched in horror as we struggled to prepare for … (2 comments)

Woodland Park, Teller County Colorado Credit and Mortgage Deficiency Rates - 10/22/08 07:47 PM

Woodland Park, Teller County, Colorado Credit and Mortgage Deficiency Rates

My fellow Active Rainer, Dean Moss from Chicago, posted a very interesting piece to his blog today. In fact, I found it so interesting that I decided, with his permission, to share it here, (the link to his informative post is below), and on Localism.com.
Very interesting to me is the  NY Fed's Interactive Map , which gives credit and mortgage deficiency rate percentages for counties all over the country.
This is what it says for Teller County:
Credit Card deficiency rate is at 2.32%

The Colorado Oil Rush - Who Knew? And Is It The Answer? - 10/22/08 02:29 PM
                                  The Colorado Gold Oil Rush
In 2006, it was revealed that lying 1000 feet under the surface of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming is more than 2 TRILLION barrels of untapped oil reserves. This is the largest untapped oil reserve on the planet. The oil here comes from "oil shale", which looks like  ordinary black rock. When heated, the shale produces oil.
Who knew? Until it was announced in 2006, pretty much only the government knew. But they'd known for a long time. In the 1930's the government took steps to protect this area, comprising about … (5 comments)

Fascinating Archeological Discovery! - 10/21/08 11:35 AM

Astounding Discovery Made - All Suspicions Confirmed!
Scientists have long attempted to prove their theories in this regard, but to this point, have met with little success. Recently, an astounding discovery has put the scientific community in an uproar, removing any doubt that the theories put forth are based in fact. While it has taken eons to validate, the American public has never held with the naysayers, and will be unsurprised to learn that their suspicions have been confirmed.

Interesting Government Failure - Does This Make You Laugh or Cry? - 10/20/08 07:06 PM

                                                  How's This For Confidence?

I received this little tidbit in an email today:

"Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for
tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it
closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country to a pack of
nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling booze."

First it made me laugh. Then I thought, this might not be so funny if it was true... So, I checked it out and this is what I found, … (4 comments)

Drugging Your Realtor?! Why would she do THAT?? - 10/17/08 10:20 AM
Being a REALTOR is a risky business indeed!

As REALTORS, we deal with all sorts of interesting people, and find ourselves in a variety of curious situations....from Elizabeth Neive's wacko, hammer yeilding seller, to any number of other nutty encounters. But I gotta tell ya, this one takes the cake!

On October 10, 2008 the Hartford Courant reported the following story:

A Quote by Thomas Jefferson- An Eerie Reflection Of Our Times - 10/07/08 06:36 PM

When our forefathers drafted the United States Constitution, they intended to do all they could to protect the rights of the citizens of the United States. The reasons for leaving England in the previous century were still fresh and clear in their minds. Their desire for religous freedom, to be free of undue taxation, freedom of speech and press, and to provide a better life for their children (unemployment was very high in 17th century England), prompted many to take that very dangerous journey into the unknowns of America. The fathers of the constitution endeavored to create a government "for … (9 comments)

And You Think You Have It Bad? A 1908 Perspective - 10/06/08 08:50 AM

And You Think You Have It Bad? We're closer to the end of the year than many of us realize. It's right around the corner. So we'll soon usher out 2008, and bring in 2009. It's been an interesting year, and a difficult one for many, so when I came across these statistics from 100 years ago, I thought it might put things a little bit in perspective. I share them with you here... THE YEAR 1908 The year is 1908. One hundred years ago. The average life expectancy was 47 years.  Only 14 percent of the homes had a … (13 comments)

                                                                     Bear Sightings In Woodland Park
We're expecting a big storm today, so I went out this morning to take more photos of the fall color in Woodland Park and around Teller County. Didn't even get out of the neighborhood before I saw this visitor!

It's not uncommon to see bear in and around Woodland Park, especially in the fall when the bear are out seeking as much food as possible before hibernation begins. All the bears we see in Colorado are 'black bear', even though many are brown, cinnamon, or even blonde in color.
It is … (0 comments)

Where Have All the Neighbors Gone.... - 10/03/08 08:46 PM
I have a rental property across town from where I live. It's a great little 1100 or so square foot home built in 1996. I bought it a few years ago for myself, later got married, moved, and rented out my doll house. I had great neighbors there, always felt safe and secure, a nice family neighborhood where the family across the street kept an eye on me, and an eye out for me. I liked it there.
For the past two years, I've had a terrific renter. A fellow REALTOR, who always paid on time, if not early. A single … (2 comments)

A Pictorial of Colorado's Fall Color - 10/01/08 07:49 PM

                                                                               Colorado Aspen

I took these photographs on a "AAA" - Altitude Attitude Adjustment" trip through Colorado's high country. We traveled from Woodland Park to Estes Park, Colorado, then through the Rocky Mountain National Forest, up over the Continental Divide, and down into Grand Lake. A visit to Cottonwood Lake the following day was gorgeous, as well.
