Rainbow Falls - AKA Graffiti Falls  
Rainbow Falls flows under a historic bridge built in the 1930's connecting Manitou Springs to Highway 24 on the old Ute Indian Trail. In the 1800's, the beautiful 25 foot falls was a tour and picnic destination for visitors to Manitou Springs, and those traveling Ute Pass. 
But, for the past many years, Rainbow Falls has been a destination for graffiti mongers, and the once pristine area was littered with trash, drug paraphernalia, and empty spray paint cans. A grass roots effort began in Manitou in 2005 to do something about the issue.  … (22 comments)

Baby, It's Cold Outside! We have had some seriously cold weather the past week or two. Currently, (according to the Weather Channel), the temperature in Colorado Springs, (about 6500 feet in elevation), is 4 degrees below zero, windchill of 17 below.  Of course, here in Woodland Park, at an elevation of about 8400, it is colder, 10 below zero, windchill a balmy 33 below.
The last time we had weather this cold was in the early 1900's.
I didn't sign up for this....LOL However, the cold weather does make for some interesting photos, as long as you are willing … (31 comments)

manitou springs: The Goddess is Hebe, not Hygeia - 02/12/09 02:34 PM
                                   118 Year Old Case of Mistaken Identity  
A while back, I posted a photo I took of a statue in Manitou Springs. I named her "Lady of Light". That's not really her name, and although she has been known as Hygeia, Goddess of Health, in Manitou Springs for the past 118 years, that's not really her name either! It was recently discovered by Manitou Springs historian, Deborah Harrison, that the statue, given to the town in 1890 by mineral water bottling magnate, Jerome Wheeler, was misnamed by him, and everyone else over the years.
