realtor: Drugging Your Realtor?! Why would she do THAT?? - 10/17/08 10:20 AM
Being a REALTOR is a risky business indeed!

As REALTORS, we deal with all sorts of interesting people, and find ourselves in a variety of curious situations....from Elizabeth Neive's wacko, hammer yeilding seller, to any number of other nutty encounters. But I gotta tell ya, this one takes the cake!

On October 10, 2008 the Hartford Courant reported the following story:

Woman accused of serving pot-laced cake to guest WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - West Hartford police said they charged a 51-year-old woman with assault, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence after she allegedly served a marijuana-tainted ginger … (9 comments)

realtor: A Quote by Thomas Jefferson- An Eerie Reflection Of Our Times - 10/07/08 06:36 PM

When our forefathers drafted the United States Constitution, they intended to do all they could to protect the rights of the citizens of the United States. The reasons for leaving England in the previous century were still fresh and clear in their minds. Their desire for religous freedom, to be free of undue taxation, freedom of speech and press, and to provide a better life for their children (unemployment was very high in 17th century England), prompted many to take that very dangerous journey into the unknowns of America. The fathers of the constitution endeavored to create a government "for … (9 comments)

realtor: Where Have All the Neighbors Gone.... - 10/03/08 08:46 PM
I have a rental property across town from where I live. It's a great little 1100 or so square foot home built in 1996. I bought it a few years ago for myself, later got married, moved, and rented out my doll house. I had great neighbors there, always felt safe and secure, a nice family neighborhood where the family across the street kept an eye on me, and an eye out for me. I liked it there.
For the past two years, I've had a terrific renter. A fellow REALTOR, who always paid on time, if not early. A single … (2 comments)

realtor: A Fraud and a Criminal - and almost my "Buyer"! - 09/23/08 05:36 PM
Trust Your Instincts!  Check 'Em Out
I just read a post by Antoinette Scognaniglio, called "Read this now...Realtor Safety issues...Who are THEY Anyway?"
Great post, Antoinette!
Her story was similar to a very recent experience that I had, but while mine was not a safety issue, (at least I don't think so), what it has in common with her story is the "Google" factor.
This is important not only to REALTORS, but to the FSBO folks out there trying to go it alone.
Here's my story:
I received a 'buyer' call in reference to a high end ranch - with … (2 comments)

realtor: What's 'Bugging' You? - 09/22/08 05:53 PM

Woodland Park - What's Bugging you?
In an article dated September 21, 2008 by R. Scott Rappold, the Colorado Springs Gazette reports that the Colorado State Forest Service office in Woodland Park has received numerous calls from people worried that the dying pine needles they see on their trees are a result of pine beetle infestation. The Colorado Forest Service assures us that what we are seeing is the annual dying of pine needles, and not the result of the voracious appetite of pine beetles.
"Many types of evergreens shed their needles in the fall, … (0 comments)

realtor: FICO Score - Foreclosure vs. Short Sale? - 09/20/08 06:26 PM
FICO score - Foreclosure vs. Shortsale?
We better know the answer to this one!
When the  'short sale' activity began to gear up, the big question I heard over and over was  "What's the difference to my credit score with Foreclosure vs. Short Sale?" Most didn't have the answer, but for those who claimed to, what I heard most often was that short sales had less of an impact on credit score than foreclosure did. As REALTORS, I fear we have a liability to our sellers when answering this question, and we'd better have it right.
Before you do anything else … (0 comments)

realtor: Woodland Park, Colorado—A Realtor Looks At Our History Part 1 - 09/15/08 05:16 PM

Woodland Park REALTOR and resident, Debi Boucher
Woodland Park, Colorado—The City Above The Clouds, is so named because it is said that for approximately 360 days a year, the sun shines (at least part of the day) on our little mountain community! The population within the city of Woodland Park is about 7,000. We’re an easy commute traveling west on Hwy. 24 from Colorado Springs, through the historical Ute Pass, and are nestled at the base of Pikes Peak, the mountain made famous by Katherine Lee Bates’ poem, “America The Beautiful”.
I’ve been a resident in this area since late … (1 comments)

realtor: Get Help Staging Your Listings! - 09/12/08 12:46 PM
By now, just about everyone agrees that staging a listed home will bring a faster sale and more money to the seller. Yet, I continue to see listing after listing that scream "Stage Me!"  It's true that not all Realtors are trained, or have the knack, for Home Staging. I have spoken with many Reators that tell me they are not comfortable with telling their sellers what needs to be done, (i.e. pet odors, general cleanliness, etc.), and they're afraid of compromising their relationship with their sellers by hurting their feelings.
Our goal as agents for the seller, is to help them get … (9 comments)
