photo: Mt. St. Helens STILL active - 09/29/07 02:20 PM
The lava-dome building eruption of Mount St. Helens continues, but at a slower rate than in previous years. The current eruption started October 2004, with a dump-truck load of lava (0.6 cubic yards) per second. The current level of lava is about a small pickup-truck load (0.35 cubic yard) every three seconds.

Last summer my husband and son took wind surfing lessons. They were hooked when we stayed on the Leeward (or is it Wind-ward?) side of Maui in Kihei. Every afternoon the Kite-boarders, kite-surfers and wind-surfers would give a great show. When we returned, they had to take lessons and did through

Sounds like an oxymoron, right? One evening in early fall the family took a trip to Tacoma to ride the new (at the time, anyway) trolley into the Museum District, across the street from the University of Washington, Tacoma campus. The area has many restaurants, pubs (many with their own micro-brews),

...when it comes to taking photos. It's a hobby I've enjoyed off and on over the years. I've found that a unique perspective will spark an idea. Look up most of the time and there it is! My most favorite is capturing the big old Maple tree in the back yard...

We've all heard the adage and it does hold true. Two weeks ago I took the kids to Olympia, Washington (my home town) to be tourist! It was a novel idea, as it turned out. We visited the fountain at Capital Lake... watched the set-up of Lake-Fair... watched a train run-over a

This is Multnomah Falls along the Columbia River Gorge (on the Oregon side, along I-80). It is the second highest year-round waterfall in the nation. The Photo was taken from the bridge crossing over falls. A short walk up through the forest, takes you to the bridge. The trail continues to

We've all heard the story of global warming... I thought I'd get a jump on a new career; Pineapple Farmer Last year we took a vacation to the wonderful island of Maui. While there, at a farmers market, a vendor was talking about how to start a pineapple. So, when we got home

My favorite gardening past-time is Herbs I have herbs everywhere. My most productive is a Rosemary plant that has a life of it's own. I've been pruning it in a hedge format, but has overtaken it's place. I was told to not prune more than 1/3 of the plant at one time
