In a previous blog, I talked about a new community in Pueblo called Walking Stick Vistas.  This year, one of the homes scheduled in the Parade of Homes was to be a home in this new community.  Unfortunately, the home was never finished in time for the Parade (and it's still not finished).  Yesterday, there was a ground breaking at that location for a newly branded community (now called Panorama at Pueblo, see:  http://imaginepanorama.com) with Denver-based Capital Pacific Homes starting a couple of spec, patio-style homes.  I am excited that investors and builders are optimistic about Pueblo's future.  I am a … (1 comments)

It seems like we've had an extended summer with all the wonderful, warm fall days lately but there is now snow on top of Pikes Peak and a cold front is expected to blow in this weekend.  If you haven't already done the following "get-ready-for-winter" tasks, now is the time:
Furnace:  Have your furnace/heating system serviced by a qualified service company.  Check/clean/replace furnace air filters each month during the heating season.  Fireplace/Wood Stoves:   Inspect fireplace, wood stove and chimneys.  Have each cleaned and serviced as needed. Friday marks the start of the Pueblo Association of Home Builders 2010 Pueblo Parade of Homes.  This year has 11 entries located throughout Pueblo and Pueblo County.  This is a far cry from the dozens of parade homes in years past - an unfortunate sign of the economic times.

The start of the 2010-2011 school year, is just around the corner.  Just one more full week of summer vacation!  The first day of school for most students is Tuesday August 17.  Kindergarteners, sixth graders, and high school freshman start on Monday August 16.
The 2010-2011 academic year will be the first time that Pueblo County School District 70 (which includes Pueblo West) will change to a 4-day school week with extended hours Monday-Thursday.

On Wednesday, July 7, 2010, COL McLaughlin, Garrison Commander at Fort Carson, toured Pueblo West and then provided an information brief at a special Pueblo West Metro District meeting.  In addition to metro district board of directors, meeting attendees included a couple dozen members of the Pueblo West community, including retired military, active military and military family members.  Here are some tidbits from the meeting that I thought might be of interest to you.

The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to extend the home buyer tax credit closing deadline to Sept. 30, giving an estimated 180,000 buyers who met the contract deadline of April 30 extra time to close the transaction.  The measure must still be approved by the House.

The Southern Delivery System (www.sdswater.org) is a project that will install a 66-inch diameter, 50-mile pipeline that will carry water from Lake Pueblo up to El Paso County.  The pipeline route will cross through Pueblo West, up through Walker Ranch, to Colorado Springs.   Several Pueblo West homes that are in the direct path of the pipeline route are being purchased outright by Colorado Springs Utilities.  Other Pueblo West property owners are being paid for easements across their property.   For all you property owners in the path of the Southern Delivery System, you should have already received a letter from Colorado Springs … (2 comments)

It's hard to believe that the first quarter of 2010 is already completed!  Since it is now April, just a few reminders for you:
April 15 - Tax Day!  File your 2009 income taxes!  If you need an extension, go to http://www.IRS.gov to obtain Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Tax Return (you still need to pay any money owed by April 15!)
