Earth Hour - Turn off & Participate! - 03/26/09 11:57 AM
It’s not often that we have the opportunity to do something not just as a community or even a country, but as the entire population of Mother Earth. In 2007 Sydney, Australia shut off the lights in the city for one hour as a comment on global warming. Last year the movement went global. I got together with friends to participate. Although it’s only 1 hour without the lights, that was long enough to show us how dependent we’ve become on electricity. One of us kept wanting to turn on a switch.

Earth Hour is this Saturday at 8:30 PM. … (3 comments)

Spotlight on Malden, MA - 03/25/09 05:35 PM
Yes, there are nice places to live around Boston where you don’t need to eat macaroni and cheese each night because you’re spending every dime you make on your house! Malden is 8 miles north of Boston. There are two MBTA stops in the city. The Oak Grove T stop is one end of the Orange Line (so you can find a seat in the morning) and is located on the border of Melrose. The Malden Center T stop is, well it’s in the center of the city itself.  The recently built YMCA has a lap pool and separate therapy pool … (2 comments)

Read & Go Green - 03/20/09 04:21 PM
When was the last time you went to your local library? As a kid, one of my favorite trips was to the library. There were so many books to read, so many adventures to have! My first job in high school I was a page at the Medford Public Library. Then, somehow, my reading habits changed. Instead of going to the library, I was buying books online or downloading them and reading them on my Treo. But thankfully I have rediscovered the wonder of my local library!
The Medford Public Library is part of the Minuteman Library Network which means that … (2 comments)

Wind Turbine at McGlynn Middle School - 03/16/09 01:54 PM
As you drive up Route 93 heading north from Boston, you’ll notice something new spinning in the wind - the McGlynn MiddleSchool in Medford, MA has a wind turbine! If you’ve been reading this blog, you already know that I’m a Prius-driving tree hugger (and proud of it) so you can imagine how excited I am about the wind turbine. I’m especially pleased at the choice of locations since it brings alternative energy models directly to students.
Sean O’Connor, a 6th grade teacher at the McGlynn (an all around great guy and client of mine!) was just featured on WBZ while … (5 comments)

Stop Advertising Your Cell Phone Carrier! - 03/13/09 11:21 AM

Do you use a Blackberry , iPhone or Treo? Send yourself a test email and then look at the bottom of the email. Every email you send from your smartphone probably says something like "Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry".  Unless Verizon or the other smartphone carriers start paying us for every email we send out, why advertise them?
Go into your smartphone's email application, find the place for your email signature file and make sure that every email you send from your smartphone advertises what you want - you!

Real Estate Stats for Melrose, MA 02176 - 03/04/09 05:12 PM
When I think of Melrose, I instantly think of its lovely Victorian downtown area that looks like it’s something from a Dickens story. Thankfully as the snow melts it’s looking less like Christmas and feels like spring might really be coming!
The real estate market in Melrose has slowed down, but it’s still doing much better than most of the rest of the country. Let me show you:

The Average Days on Market are also showing that sales of single family homes remain brisk while condos and multi family homes are taking longer to sell.
Average Days on Market as … (2 comments)
