While many struggle to keep their homes and avoid foreclosure, rising national foreclosures have created a window of opportunity for charities like Habitat, who strive to keep home ownership costs low. Dallas City Council just approved a 45-acre planned development district (mixed-use) at the foot of the Trinity River Corridor a few weeks ago. Today's spotlight is on this mixed-use development along the hot Trinity River Corridor in Dallas. Just about every major city in Texas has had a surge in downtown revitalization since 2005, including San Antonio, Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin. I was in a Leadership Austin class on all day Wednesday. We discussed some interesting updates on new urbanism, transit-oriented development, commuter rails, and other changes to Austin and Texas that I'll share in upcoming weeks and months. A variety of infrastructure and development tools are being used in anticipation of millions of new residents coming to Texas in the next decade. The theme of the past few Leadership Austin sessions have been economic development and infrastructure needed in Texas to keep up with consumer demand. dallas: Dallas Commercial Real Estate Continues Growth - 10/08/07 11:24 AM
Dallas, Texas is a pretty attractive real estate market. Like Austin and Houston, it has steady job and population growth although residential home prices have decreased about 1.4% since last year. When I was on Austin Business District's radio hour, I noted that residential investors, home buyers and real estate agents should pay close attention to the commercial real estate markets. Commercial firms have the financial resources to know where to expand. Houston will always be a commercial real estate haven, as will Dallas.
