fairhope: Fairhope Alabama Lighting of the Trees - 11/24/09 07:29 PM
I have not yet ventured into the land of owning a digital SLR camera, so my photos will not do this scene justice, as I simply can't capture the magic that comes with the lighting of the trees.  We wait around all year here in Fairhope, for the lighting of the trees which takes place every year on the Thursday before Thanksgiving.  The trees of the town will stay lit until Easter when they once again become trees, and trees alone.  But from the Thursday before Thanksgiving until Easter, the trees are pure magic.  We love them.  Sadly, the old … (5 comments)

fairhope: Fairhope, Alabama Single Tax Colony - 06/21/09 11:45 AM
Fairhope, Alabama is one of two cities in the United States that operates as a Single Tax colony.  What is the single tax colony and what does it mean to me if I choose to purchase property in Fairhope, Alabama?  This question is asked frequently by those who are interested in purchasing property in Fairhope, which may be owned by The Fairhope Single Tax Corporation (FSTC).
Fairhope has an interesting history dating back to an evening in November, 1894 when a group of men, led by E.B. Gaston, left Des Moines, Iowa seeking to establish a ideal community based … (4 comments)

fairhope: Fairhope and the living is easy and desirable! - 06/18/09 11:17 AM
Fairhope, Alabama has long been a haven for artists, visual artists, musicians, dancers, writers.  Located on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Fairhope is a southern city oozing charm, hospitality and the the easy slow pace of life in the deep south.  once it gets in your blood, it is hard to get Fairhope out of your spirit.
Page and Pallette, an independent book store located in the heart of downtown, frequently hosts authors for readings and book signings.  It is a wonderful place to hang out, even when there aren't any special events going on - which is … (4 comments)

fairhope: Free things to do in Fairhope or Daphne - 05/10/09 05:44 PM
There are lots of fun free things to do in Baldwin County.  Let's say Saturday is coming, or the summer even, and you are at home with kids and just can't keep them corralled any longer.  What can you do with them that would cost you no more than the gas to get there and back, and maybe a picnic?

fairhope: Look at Me , I'm in Fairhope and I have everything - 04/05/09 10:52 AM
Yes I do.  I'm just up the street from Mobile Bay with its walking paths, the public boat ramp, places to sit and read and watch the world go by.  I'm just a few blocks from downtown, close enough that you can walk and experience everything that Fairhope has to offer.
I have a very pretty entrance which could be the sight you see after a long day away from me:
I'm typical of Fairhope cottages, but I have more.

I have a circular drive and gorgeous trees all around.  I have peace and quiet and a … (4 comments)

fairhope: Once Upon a time I was lovely... - 04/03/09 03:31 PM
I was dressed to be serene and welcoming.   I was coordinated inside and out with the most charming colors.

And friends would gather on my porch...and swap stories, and pause in the breeze blowing into Fairhope from Mobile Bay.  They'd sip their tea, and talk about their day and their children and their jobs and their dreams.

And when it was time to eat, people would gather in my kitchen while delicious scents rose from my stove and my oven and they'd swap recipes and laughter.

fairhope: Let the Realtor Beware! - 06/30/08 12:44 PM
We never know when we are showing properties what we might encounter.  This past week, Christi and I were showing a property to a client in Mobile County.  Since we previewed the property before showing, we knew what to expect come client showing day.  And sometimes, there are surprises so unexpectedly pleasant, that we just have to share them.
This was a really lovely home on approximately 3 and a half acres.  Most of those acres were a lovely pond.  And there were ducks and swans!

Swans, you say?  Yes, swans.  Now, I have never been up … (7 comments)

fairhope: FSBO Follies with Dedra and Christi - 03/27/08 09:49 AM
Today, I am reflecting on working with FSBO's here in Baldwin County.  Boy, oh boy are they ever an adventure in and of itself!
Christi and I are usually on the phone or knocking on their doors withing a week of the sign going up in their yard, because we truly and deeply believe that these inexperienced sellers need assistance.    I have found two things to be true regarding their asking prices:
1.   FSBO properties are usually priced too high, or
2.   FSBO properties are usually priced too low.
How do they get there?  Sometimes it is the house around the … (1 comments)

fairhope: Out and About in Fairhope - 03/26/08 10:09 AM
Christi and I spent last Saturday introducing ourselves in Country Woods in Fairhope.  Our goal was to say hello, spread a touch of Spring with a gift of spring flower seeds and leave.  All in all, we spent less than a minute at the door.
This was our first time to go door knocking, which we decided to do since our prospecting never has included face to face time in the neighborhood.  We've done mailings to our target farm and sphere of influence, we've made phone calls, and follow-ups and decided to add this face to face.
It was a nice neighborhood … (0 comments)

fairhope: How did I get here? - 03/21/08 09:44 AM
Why do I do what I do?
After so many years in the Baldwin County public school system, I took a couple of years off to recharge.  I needed that time to re-energize, reflect and recover.   I loved teaching, I loved waking every morning and looked forward to greeting the day with each year's group of students.  But, after a time, my energy kept going out, with very little coming back in.  I was draining all my stores of energy and after a while, I realized that I was very close to empty.
My husband suggested that I give it up, and … (1 comments)
