real estate photography: What Home Staging Will . . . and Won't . . . do when Selling Your Home - 03/23/10 08:52 AM
What Home Staging Will . . . and Won't . . . do when Selling Your Home
More and more home sellers are becoming aware of home staging in Calgary, AB. I get calls all the time from people checking into it for the first time. Surely, a lot of the HGTV type shows have contributed to this awareness.
Through my own real estate experiences, I became a big believer in the power of Home Staging! However, it will not sell a home all by itself when there are other factors working against the property.
Below is a quick list of … (13 comments)

real estate photography: If Home Staging were an Olympic Sport . . . - 02/20/10 01:33 PM
If Home Staging were an Olympic Sport, it certainly would include elements of speed, precision and artistic ability!
As I've been enjoying snippets of the games -- and have fond memories of when the Winter Olympics were in Calgary, Alberta in 1988 -- it has motivated me to look at the tasks in a Home Staging project from a slightly different perspective (read, a little "tongue in cheek").
Perhaps the Olympic Home Staging event would go something like this:
Short Program
Stage a bathroom in a vacant house, cannot repaint. Must include the following required elements (and be done to classical music … (14 comments)

real estate photography: A Quick Sale with Strategic Home Staging in Calgary, AB - 02/19/10 09:26 AM
In a recent home staging I did in South West Calgary, my challenge was to work with a dated (50's) kitchen in a home that had been mostly updated elsewhere. The house was vacant except for the brown leather love seat in the living room, and a kitchen table set in the dining area.
The house also needed a little curb appeal and a bit of a "pick me up" to a bland exterior.
We provided the additional furniture, art and accessories, and . . . of course . . . our professional home staging know-how! Here's how GreenApple Staging & Images … (23 comments)

real estate photography: GreenApple Staging & Images at the Calgary Real Estate Tradeshow - 01/21/10 11:34 AM
Yesterday, January 20th, was the Calgary Real Estate Board Conference and Tradeshow event in Calgary, Alberta. GreenApple Staging & Images was proud and excited to be an exhibitor, among approximately 100 others, all contributing to the theme, "A Brave New World".
The GreenApple team had a great time mingling with both the attendees and other exhibitors. We had tons of traffic at our booth and got a chance to meet so many hardworking and forward thinking Realtors.
There is definitely an increased interest this year in Home Staging, professional Real estate Photography, and pre-market home selling Consultations as part of an individual … (19 comments)

real estate photography: CREB Forecast 2010 . . . the Future of Real Estate Revealed?? - 01/04/10 04:22 AM
January, 20th is the sixth annual Conference and Tradeshow for the Calgary Real Estate Board. They've promised to tell us about the brand new economy, brand new consumer and brand new technology.
Certainly these are themes that we are all eager to explore after some pretty uncertain times! I'm looking forward to some good news.
If you are planning on attending the tradeshow, stop by GreenApple Staging & Images to say "Hey!". We are excited to make our first appearance at the show, and to be part of the changing face of Calgary's real estate market.
It will be interesting to hear the … (5 comments)

real estate photography: Peak-a-Boo, I see you! And, Skip to the Loo! Two Real estate Photography games we all play. - 11/30/09 01:37 PM
Ever played Peak-a-boo in the loo??
I had to laugh at myself last week. I did a pre-market staging consultation, snapped some photos for the Recommendation Report that I would email later, and finished up with my meeting. When I got home to write up my report, I took a look at the photos and saw this in the pile:

(Side note: this is not my "professional" grade photography! These were just quick photos for the purpose of discussing different areas needing to be addressed with the home owner.)
But has this ever happened to you?!
I laughed especially hard because this … (25 comments)

real estate photography: What difference can a Professional Home Stager make in 3 hours?? - 11/19/09 04:07 AM
What difference can a Stager make in 3 hours??
Here are some Before and After photos from a recent Power Staging. The Realtor who referred me felt the property lacked a little pizzazz and appeal for the typical home buyer in this middle-class SW Calgary neighborhood. I had visited the home the week before and brought along some artwork and pillows (we had an inexpensive rental agreement for these items). Otherwise, I worked with all the home owner's stuff and we mostly just rearranged furniture . . . and, of course, de-cluttered!

real estate photography: Asking Santa for a new camera for Real Estate Photography? Here are a few things to Consider . . . - 11/16/09 05:59 AM
Asking Santa for a new camera for Real Estate Photography? Keep reading . . .
With about a gazillion different digital cameras out there, how do you even begin to narrow down the choices? With my experience as a professional real estate photographer, hopefully I can provide you with some useful guidelines of the features that are the most important for photographing your properties.
The More MegaPixels the Better . . . Right?
No, not necessarily. Though MegaPixels may appear to be the "muscle" of a digital camera . . .

real estate photography: Advanced Point and Shoot for elevated shots - Any advice? - 10/19/09 05:53 AM
For my exterior shots of homes, my hubby rigged up a pole device with a high quality painter's pole, from which I can shoot tethered or use the camera's timer. I shoot tethered to a laptop when he's with me, but use the timer when I'm alone--too cumbersome with the laptop.
It's great to have these elevated shots (10-15 feet above street level), as it puts the eye at about mid-point of a two storey home. It helps control any perspective distortion, lets the viewer see more of the landscaping and setting while overcoming some street level obstacles.
I don't want to … (21 comments)

real estate photography: Getting Client Testimonials for Marketing - 10/16/09 06:28 AM
As home stagers and real estate photographers, we all know the power of great client testimonials for obtaining new business. They help to create trust, give a potential client a bit of a snapshot of how we do business, and add to our "human-ness" (people like doing business with people!).
The real art is in securing these testimonials! Of course, it starts with doing a great job in the first place--but how do you get the positive comments that inevitably follow (all going well!), committed to paper and in a form that you can use?
May I quote you?The great thing about … (14 comments)
