The difference between what we call a house and what we call a home can be the difference between selling and just listing. A house is simply an object, a building that someone can live in. A home on the other had is more than that. A home has sentimental attachments to it. We live there and make memories in our homes, but to sell our home, we must break our attachment to it. We need to look at our home like a house. By looking at your house without the attachments you will begin to see it the way a potential buyer will. The scratch marks in the doorway of your home are measurements of a child's growth. Those same marks in the doorway of a house are just scratch marks that need repair. Buyers approach a house looking for flaws. Homeowners take flaws in their home as flaws in them. They take them personally. Don't. No house is perfect, but the houses that are closest sell the fastest. By separating yourself from your home, you will be able to take a more objective look at it and better prepare it for the market. In today's market buyers are looking for houses that are in move-in condition. There are a lot of houses to choose from, so why take the one that needs work. By preparing your house for sale you will be one step closer to buying your new house and making it your new home.
