downtown miami: A Day of Rememberance - 05/26/08 09:23 PM

I stumbled upon Arlington Miami in front of the Bayfront Amphitheater in Downtown Miami this past Sunday afternoon on my way to Bayside Marketplace from the College/Bayside station of the Metromover.
It made me stop.
In a city sorely lacking in art in public places (unless you count the roosters on Calle Ocho), I found Arlington Miami to be quite refreshing. It made me uncomfortable, piqued my curiosity, provoked thought and put things in perspective all in a span of 20 seconds. Best of all, it was there for all to see. For free.

downtown miami: Miami: A Tropical Chicago? - 01/02/08 11:38 PM
I nearly fell out of my chair yesterday as I sipped on some freshly brewed coffee and took bites of a cream cheese-smothered multi-grain bagel in the cafe of a local bookstore. The following was posted in the October 2007 newsletter of the Development Authority:
DWNTWN. It’s Downtown Miami’s Brand New Logo.
DWNTWN may only have six letters. But it sends a pronounced message that’s expressly Miami. It communicates the essence of Downtown’s urban core in a … (3 comments)

downtown miami: MIAMI CONDO BOOM - GIFT OR CURSE? - 10/12/07 09:19 PM
In a recent NBC6.net story titled “Population Boom Hits Downtown Miami”, Jorge Perez, Miami’s leading developer whose company The Related Group is responsible for the development of an estimated 6,400 units in the Dwntwn (no pun intended)/Brickell area, states that his only regret was not buying more land near his first building in the area, the 896-unit One Miami, located at the mouth of the north bank of the Miami River and Biscayne Bay.
His prognosis: there will be 20,000 new units in Downtown Miami in the next five years that “will get occupied over time. The more those buildings get … (0 comments)
