This picture is from the 2012 Festival (Steve Wilson group with Strings). I have been attending this great gathering from the beginning, when it was held on the riverfront behind the Hercules Building, and when Brown’s widow attended. Every year, the DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Wilmington, Delaware brings 6 nights of Jazz played by some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians to downtown Wilmington, Delaware.Schedule Monday night was no exception. The five night long DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Rodney Square, Wilmington, Delaware ended Saturday night with the Rufus Reid Out Front Quintet (that's Rufus on the bass, left) and then soared with A Trumpet Tribute:Celebrating Clifford Brown. The latter featured Jeremy Pelt, David Weiss, and Tom Harrell on trumpets, and Anthony Wonsey on piano, Dezron Douglas on Bass, and Louis Hayes on percussion. clifford brown jazz festival: And All That Jazz!

Last week Wilmington played host to the 21st Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival on Rodney Square, in the center of downtown. There were a variety of styles featured, from Ivan Neville's Funk, to the Latin sounds of Pete Escovedo's Orchestra, to the more straight ahead jazz of Jazz Attack, The Bad Plus, Jason Moran, and last but not least, the wild and energetic 79 year old Roy Haynes and his Band. There is always a chance of rain (which we had several periods of) but there was also a chance to hear some great jazz at the largest FREE outdoor jazz (0 comments)
