I couldn’t help it, really!! A bus trip with the Delaware Art Museum docents to Washington, D.C. to see the Pre-Raphaelite art exhibit at the National Gallery of Art afforded me a chance to visit old and new friends on the National Mall. Yes, I eventually ended up seeing the Pre-Raphaelites ( some of which were loaned by the Delaware Art Museum), but I had a list of other things I wanted to see. delaware art museum: Howard Pyle Celebration Brings His Ghost, a Famous Wyeth Model, and Cakes Inspired by His Paintings - 03/03/12 05:46 PM
  Today was Howard Pyle Day at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware. A special exhibit of his paintings and illustrations ends this weekend, so there were some interesting events going on.
After looking at the artwork, I saw 3 chefs and some pretty fancy cakes. They were asked to create cakes interpreting Pyle’s artwork, and I am picturing 2 of these cakes.  One, by Liz Marden of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was inspired by Pyle’s Mermaid. The other cake, created by Hotel DuPont pastry chef Michelle Mitchell and her assistant, shows a DuPont powder wagon which probably inspired some … (0 comments)

delaware art museum: Delaware Labyrinth a Place to Get Centered - 11/01/11 11:44 AM

Many labyrinths set in floors or on the ground are large enough that the path to the center and back can be walked. They have historically been used both in group ritual and for private meditation.  The labyrinth in the Sculpture Garden at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington was created inside an old reservoir on the grounds. When I visited the grounds on Halloween weekend, the shadows of the trees seemed to be creating a sort of ancient astronomical indicator pattern on the stones, with fallen leaves partially hiding the stones which form the pattern in the labyrinth.

delaware art museum: The Delaware Art Museum Holiday House Tour - 12/13/09 06:59 PM
The Delaware Art Museum Holiday House Tour was held December 12, and it proved to be a mix of art centered homes, artists' studios and homes decorated for Christmas.
I had a great time talking to Rick  Rothrock, who sculpts in stone and whose home is a virtual gallery of his work. Then we visited the home of The Memegers and were wowed by his studio with its sunny glass-enclosed walls and the poured in place concrete table that stretched across this former basement.
