Last Saturday was National Train Day and a fellow Friends of the Furness RR District Board member and I traveled (compliments of Amtrak) to New York City to see the Grand Central Terminal, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. It is quite a grand space, and it was ironic that to travel to NYC on Amtrak, we had to arrive in Penn Station, a dark hole in the ground, and take the subway (albeit on a special 1950's train) to Grand Central (note the subway tiles above the picture of the Terminal). It should not take long for you to figure out where we were this week.  The country mice visited the Big Apple and it was over the top, just as we expected it to be.
The Christmas decorations were fantastic in the store windows (these pics were taken several months ago and I didn't have my camera with me this time) and we found a new (to us) museum, The Museum of Arts and Design on Columbus Circle. The High Line, in New York City’s Chelsea section, proved to be a pleasant place to spend some time for a couple of visiting Delaware gardeners this last week.
The High Line, a long abandoned raised rail line which once hauled meat to various plants and has now been re-purposed as an estimated 20 block long garden, is located on Manhattan's West Side.
