NEW THREAT TO THE HOUSING MARKET - 07/16/09 10:19 AM
The housing market is facing a new downward pressure as holders of sub-prime-mortgage bonds flood the market with foreclosed homes at prices much lower than where many banks are willing to sell.

Effective May 20, 2009, a new federal law, the Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act of 2009, gives rights to residential tenants whose landlords have lost title through foreclosure.  Tenants must get a 90 day notice to vacate prior to eviction.  Further, if the lease was entered into before the foreclosure, the tenant may finish the lease term, except that the lease can be prematurely terminated upon 90 days notice if the property is sold to a purchaser who will occupy the property as a primary residence.
