When your market is just to small - 02/26/09 04:59 PM
Like many Realtors across the country I was approached by Growth Leader to become apart of their new program. After a few minutes on the phone with Jennifer Lew I have to say I was impressed with what they offer. And of course, I checked out all the recent blog posts that agents have been writing about Growth Leader. But as it some times happens, after I got excited about the possibilities the rug got pulled out from under me. Pueblo (PAR) isn't part of there program - bummer! Our market here in Southern Colorado just isn't big enough. But the (6 comments)
New tax incentives for Old Homes - 02/23/09 05:04 PM
Save the planet by making an old home energy efficient Better tax credits for increasing the energy efficiency of your existing home. WOW that makes sense. Previously there was a $200 cap on replacement windows. Now it is $1500 tax credit for all energy efficient projects. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of building more energy efficient homes; it makes great sense that as we build new homes we build them to ever increasing standards that match the new technology available. However, retrofitting an existing home with energy efficient features is much more carbon and cost efficient than (11 comments)

Chasing Windmills : Functional Obsolescence - 02/20/09 10:05 PM
During a recent conversation with another agent and appraiser we got into the ever-so-common discussion of what is the right way to build an energy efficient, sustainable, environmentally friendly house. For the most part he and I agreed on every point. This conversation took several hours but was a great way to exchange ideas and hopefully build our respective businesses. Many people today are asking builders to build their new construction homes with the newest, biggest, most modern gizmos. Whether it's photo voltaic, hot water systems, wind turbines or anything else that has bells or whistles. But is the home owner (7 comments)
On Thursday mornings I go to a network group, The Canon City Business Owners Meet and Greet. We have a terrific set of people, we have fun and we do get help going and some business ideas rolling. Brenda King from Pre-Paid legal Services in our fearless (or is it fearful) leader. Today she gave us a "Quote of the Week" that I thought I'd share. Erroneously attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson - Quote by Bessie Stanley Success To laugh often and much To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children To earn the appreciation (2 comments)
It's a dark, stormy night the wind is howling and .... - 02/12/09 01:40 PM
It's a dark, stormy night the wind is howling and rain is beating against the window pane, lightning cracks, thunder rolls and you snuggle under the covers grateful that you are safe and warm. "ARE YOU"? Have you ever looked in your attic? Do you know for sure that wind hasn't driven rain into your home? Do you know that your roof is properly insulated, ventilated and secure from insect or rodent intrusions? Your roof protects everything in your home; if it fails it can lead to expensive repairs. If you see moisture on your ceiling, damage is already done. Don't (2 comments)
Via George Souto (McCue Mortgage Co.): As some of you might know by now, the House passed a stimulus bill last week. In my opinion the two key provisions of the House bill is the restoration of 2008 loan limit sand new tax credit. The Senate has not yet passed the entire Stimulus Bill but passed an expansion of the tax credit proposal on 2/4. The proposal would be available to all purchasers (not just first-time homebuyers). The key elements are: A tax (4 comments)
