The economic analysis we have been hearing on the radio, TV and other sources have been predicting the current real estate market will flatten out and possibly start to decline by November 2018. Mid-year elections will possibly change things like interest rates, the legalization of marijuana in more states and Congressional seats. I've been blogging on Active Rain since 2006 and it has never, ever occured to me to answer the question I get asked often. "How you you pronounce the name Canon City?" The name of the Fremont County seat and largest city is Canon City. Pronounce it "Canyon" Population between 16,000 - 17,000. There is some debate why the name is spelled the way it is. Is Can~on City written with a Spanish influence or was it a misspelling? Since nobody was there video taping the history of the town we will probably never really know. When I moved to Colorado in the early 1980′s with my family, my mom decided there was no reason to live anywhere there was not a view. Florence is know a the Antique Capital of Colorado. The main street is lined with antique shops that take hours and hours to walk threw. You can find dolls, clothes, hats, furniture, knives, clocks, the list goes on and on. And make sure to stop in at the local restaurants - they are awesome! Twenty one houses sold in 2009 that were at least 100 years old. These properties are so much fun, charming and have so much history. In my area, Fremont County, there are somewhere between 13 and 15 State and Federal prisons. The number of prisons fluxuates with closures and new builds going on all the time, and doesn't include county facilities. The prisons are a major source of money for Fremont County : federal funds, state funds, employment, hotels, visitors, food, fuel. Employment in Fremont County is sometimes hard to come by if you don't work for the prisons, but at the same time families of guards and prisoners help support the local economy.
