rye: Elmers House in Rye Colorado - 05/21/09 01:31 PM

Let me introduce you to Elmer. Elmer has spent his entire life in Rye, one of the prettest parts of Colorado. Elmers life started out as a Rye telephone truck. Today Elmer lives on a faboulous ranch with fanastic views.

Life hasn't always been an easy one for Elmer. Rye winters can be hard. When the snow comes it comes in feet.

Elmers favorite parking spot is the furthest from the house but any of the four garages are comfy.

Rye Colorado: Photo By Dena Stevens
Colorado has suffered though some dry years with little to no snow or rain. Often people from out of the area will comment about how they thought the "Rocky Mountains" should be green. Well, the Front Range is basically prarie and it's dry. But this year we have been fortunate to be getting some moisture, and it shows!
This picture was taken May 11, 2009 in Rye Colorado. Look at the Greenhorn Mountains, they don't grow 'em like that in Connecticut!

Anybody who reads my blog my think that Pueblo County CO is just flat grass land. But the truth is Pueblo has a varity of topography. The song America the Beautiful says "from the mountains to the prairies." That's what you can find in Pueblo County.
This picture is of Rye Colorado. Not far away is the town of Rye, Bishops Castle and Lake San Isabel.

rye: Trash Talk - 08/15/08 05:02 PM
Trash Talk
I want to talk about trash! Three months ago I cancelled my trash service. I live in a rural community and the trash service is private and expensive. With the price of fuel the inevitable was going to happen (again) the price of my service was due to up. Personally, I put so little trash out it just wasn't worth the price for what little I put out.
At a our recent neighborhood pot luck I discovered many of my neighbors were either thinking of cancelling their service or already had. We talked about pooling together and getting one … (9 comments)

rye: Hey, I'm over here! - 08/15/08 04:23 PM
I've been blogging on Active Rain since almost the very beginning. I didn't know anything about SEO, tags or key words. But I enjoyed learning, the process of doing the posts and most of all getting the phone to ring. And I'm still learning this ever developing craft. I'm still amazed when the phone rings and the voice on the other end is a mortgage lender from San Diego asking me about my Talking House post or when a potential buyer calls asking about a specific property. Blogging is truly a great tool and I'm ever grateful to the A.R. gods for … (0 comments)

rye: Rye, Colorado: Just a few pictures! - 06/06/08 09:00 AM
Rye Colorado

The tiny town of Rye Colorado sits on highway 165 in the San Isabel forest. Once named Table Top Mountain the name was shortened to save the post master grief. A beautifully forested area, and home of the rediscovered Green Back Cut Throat Trout and Bishops Castle. The population of approx 200 swells with tourists in the summer months. While visiting the area go to Lake Isabel and Beckwith Reservoir, Camp, day hike or rent a cabin.

Homes in the area sell for between $25,000 for a converted cabin to $1.5 for something a little bit … (0 comments)
