For you buyers thinking of purchasing a new construction home in Chesapeake, go to this web site first, after contacting me of course.  The web site is federalhousingtaxcredit.com  It explains the the $7,500 tax credit you can get for purchasing a new home.  The site provides links to frequently asked questions, provisions on the law and other home buyer resources.  The site is courtesy of the National Association of Builders.
I am not at the site anymore but I can still sell you a home at Westchester Estates with Ashdon Builders or Graff Construction.

chesapeake: Is There A Need For AN Eighth High School - 09/08/08 04:04 PM
Chesapeake school board officials are thinking about delayng the building of an eighth high school.  Why?  Because of the economy and and slower growth.  The money may be better spent renovating and updating schools.  There are several schools now with that have several hundred students more then they were built for but it looks like the trend is going down.  The forecast for the  school district was for no growth in students for the year.  There are many thoughts on the process but when you think about one school costing $100 million you really need to put a lot of thought … (0 comments)

chesapeake: Compact Flourescent Lights (CFL) - 08/09/08 04:28 PM
If you had not wanted to put CFL's in your new homes because they wouldn't fit anywhere, don't worry.  They come in every shape, style and wattage that you could possibly imagine.  They even have the little yellow bug light.  I have not thought of those in years.  I am working on my builder at Westchester Estates in Chesapeake, Va to put the bulbs everywhere.  Yes they are expensive but we could advertise as have a somewhat "green" house.  Every bit helps nowadays.
Here is a great website for CFL bulbs.  Check it out.

chesapeake: Golf Course Or Ecological Disaster Part III - 08/05/08 07:41 PM
My last entry on this was a while ago
http://activerain.com/blogsview/518201/Golf-Course-Or-Ecological and here is an update.  The Battlefield Golf Course is built on 1.5 million tons of fly ash.  The wells on property around the course were recently tested and it appears that there are elevated levels of lead and other heavy metals in the wells around the golf course.  Can you imagine that.
City officials in Chesapeake are asking for help from the EPA in Richmond.  The EPA is trying to figure out what to do if anything.  Some residents feel their homes are worthless because of the well situation and shouldn't … (0 comments)

chesapeake: Bond Rating Improves - 07/24/08 07:39 PM
The taxpayers of Chesapeake got a break the other day when the city's general obligation bond rating went from a AA to AA+.  This could save the residents millions in tax dollars becasuse the city will get a better interest rate on money it borrows.  The city manager, William Harrell and a team visited Standard & Poor Rating Service in New Your recently and made a presentation.  Apparently they made the city's case because the bond rating was improved.

chesapeake: Older Residents Needing Heat Relief - 07/23/08 07:40 PM
Calling citizens of Chesapeake and South Hampton Roads.  If you are 60 years old or older and meet certain income limits, you can apply for a free fan to help beat the heat.  Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia realizes that not everyone has air conditioning and not every one can afford it.  They have started thier Fan Care program so older people can get a fan.  The phone number is 757-461-9481 and ask to talk to an intake specialist.

chesapeake: Here A Puff, There A Puff - 07/12/08 07:42 PM
Will smokers still buy cigarettes in Virginia Beach with a 22 percent tax increase?  Six months I would have said no but now that gas is $4 bucks a gallon I don't see many people going out of the way to say some pennies on smokes.  Some fear that smokers will go elsewhere to buy and put the budget out of whack.
Virginia Beach charges 61 cents a pack, Norfolk 65 cents and Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk are at 50 cents a pack.  The cities will probably tax themselves out of business one of these days but for now I think … (0 comments)

chesapeake: Brokers Luncheons Hurt - 06/23/08 09:04 PM
I was setting up for a Brokers luncheon last week at West Chester Estates in Chesapeake when it happened. I tripped over the threshold and broke my left ankle. That hurt really bad and put me out of work for a while. My builder and broker are great. They are making due til I get back. So if you ask me if Brokers Luncheons work for business I would say no. … (0 comments)

chesapeake: More Smoke In The Air - 06/12/08 07:02 PM
I wrote a blog the other day http://www.activerain.com/blogsview/544915/Smoke-In-The-Air about the fire in NC.  It has grown quite large.  Now there is a new fire in the Dismal Swamp area of Chesapeake.  It looks like they are trying to burn down my new home site at Westchester Estates.  I don't have any pictures of it as of yet.  The wind is pushing it southwest at the moment which is good for me.  Hopefully the rain makers will come along shortly and help the fire fighters out there.

chesapeake: Broke My Ankle - 06/08/08 05:25 PM
I was preparing for a Brokers Luncheon at my new home site in Chesapeake at Westchester Estates when I tripped over the threshold going outside.  I heard something pop but didn't know what it was.  I fell very hard and it seemed quite fast.  None of that slow motion stuff.  The next thing I knew I was trying to pick myself up off the ground.  The only thing I could think of was to finish getting ready for the luncheon.  Thinking I only twisted the ankle I went back to preparing.  Five minutes later I realized I couldn't go on and off … (3 comments)

chesapeake: Tankless Water Heaters - 05/26/08 01:17 PM
I saw a blog the other day on tankless water heaters and found some information I thought I would share as I do sale new homes in Chesapeake, VA.  I am going to have my builder look at them and see what he thinks.  We could promote them as "green houses" with a few more tweaks.
Here is some info on tankless water heaters.
They cost two to four times more than conventional heaters.  So if you are looking at $500 for a conventional system you may be looking at $1000 to $2000 for a tankless system.

chesapeake: Golf Course Or Ecological Disaster Part II - 05/20/08 07:45 PM
The Battlefield Golf Club at Centerville in Chesapeake may once again be open to the public.  This is the course that is built on 1.5 million tons of fly ash.  The course wasn't closed because of the fly ash but because of not having proper permits.  A deal has been worked out to open the course back up but the remove the time frame for homeowners with well problems to sue the course.    Without the course open to the public it would be bankrupt.  Bankrupt would mean the homeowners wouldn't have anyone to sue.  I guess it is a win win … (1 comments)

chesapeake: Portsmouth Police To Aid Mentally Ill - 05/20/08 07:38 PM
Finally the Portsmouth Police Department is getting some training on handling the mentally ill.  The idea is for the officers to have training to deal with people that have mental problems.  The police can maybe identify someone who is mentally ill and deal with that person rather then putting them in jail where they may not belong.  There is also a Safe Haven program that is staffed by mental health officials where police can drop off non violent offenders.  Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are also looking into the same type of program.

chesapeake: Internet Advertising - 05/12/08 08:04 PM
Anyone have any good thoughts on how to spend money on internet advertising?  We are spending money on print and it is not working.  Trying to get my broker to change to spending money on the internet is difficult because you can't really see it like you can print advertising.  Would a PPC be good or just getting a web site and paying for good SEO a better idea?  Suggestions are really welcome.  I am selling new homes in Chesapeake, Va at Westchester Estates.   Come on out and see me.

chesapeake: Tunnel Plan Backed - 05/03/08 05:06 PM
Regional lawmakers backed expansion of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel but have no plan to pay for it.  Teh commitment to enlarge the tunnel is at least a step in the right direction.  A bigger step would be for the legislature to man up and find a way to pay for the billions of dollars of need road infrastructor needed in our area.

chesapeake: Navy Wife Gets High Tech Wheelchair - 05/03/08 04:59 PM
Deanna VanHook has a high tech wheelchair that Tricare, the military insurance program, paid for.  The payment came after a two year legal battle with Tricare.  The battle won't set a precident and paralyzed military members won't be able have them paid for.  The iBot is a $24,000 high tech wheelchair and allows Deanna to change light bulbs.  At that price, you can see why Tricare fights tooth and nail to keep anyone from getting one.

chesapeake: Mummichogs Is A Canary? - 05/03/08 04:49 PM
That is what they are called.  Mummichogs are th canarys of the fish world.  Scientists use them as an indicator of the overall environmental health in a specific waterway.  In our case, the Elizabeth River.  The fish are small, don't go very far and eat worms and algae.  They in turn are fish food for bigger fish.  There are several toxic spots in the river and they were tested recently.  At one hot spot, next to an old creosote plant, 90% of the tested fish had tumors.  Along the river that weren't known hot spots, the fish came up pretty normal  … (0 comments)

What city in Hampton Roads is No. 14 in the top 100 list for small business?  If you guessed Virginia Beach then you would be correct.  Virginia Beach's small business owners benefit from low taxes, a dynamic and diverse local economy and a strong work force boosted by Navy personnel looking for part time work.  The rank is also indicates a high quality of life thanks to a healthy outdoor lifestyle.

chesapeake: Spirit Gets A Facelift - 05/03/08 04:16 PM
How do the the sailors from Naval Operation Base (NOB) spend their evenings?  On the Spirit of Norfolk of course.  The Spirit boats are a dining and entertainment attraction for both locals and tourists.  If you have not tried it yet please do as it is a super way to spend your evenings in Norfolk. To keep the sailors happy, the Spirit of Norfolk recently undewent a $350k facelift.  The money was spent on the ship to make it look all new again.  The owners didn't mess with a good thing but made changes that were worth the money such as replacing the carpets, … (2 comments)
