distractions: My Biggest Technology Mistakes - 05/06/22 04:45 PM

My Biggest Technology Mistakes This week, I'm talking about the biggest mistakes I've made with technology. I've made tons of mistakes over the years, and I want to share them with you.
Mistake #1: Spending Money Before Researching
The first mistake on my list is wasting money on technology or software that didn't suite me. If something doesn't mesh with my workflow or learning style, there was a very low chance it would be effective. I didn't invest the time to research to see if they would be compatible with me before purchasing them.
It's really easy to do the … (18 comments)

distractions: Is Your Home Office Costing You Money? - 02/18/20 02:26 PM

Is Your Home Office Costing You Money?
When I first started my real estate career well over two decades ago, real estate agents did not work from home. They worked in cubicles in offices and shared work space. There wasn't even an option to work from home.
With the expansion of the internet, apps, email, and dashboards available from the coffee-shop down the street or across the globe, I have watched the industry change dramatically. One of the biggest make-it or break-it changes has been the work from home rage.
Initially I remember agents that worked for me … (8 comments)

distractions: Listen, You Don't Need that Stuff! - 12/13/19 11:43 AM

Listen, You Don't Need that Stuff!
There isn't a week that goes by that I am not asked about my opinion about a new bright shiny tool, CRM program, app, system or new lead generation that promises to revolutionize the way an agent does business. There are promises of increased income and solutions to every pain point an agent might have.
Although the one pain point that may be temporarily resolved is the pain an agent feels when they are in a desperate state and then think they have found their solution, the problem is that RARELY do these … (13 comments)

Is It Time to Take a Distraction Diet?
Are you feeling lethargic? Pulled in too many directions? Are you unable to complete the tasks you used to handle easily? Feeling weighed down and uninspired? Lacking energy and focus? If so, it may be time for what I call the distraction diet!
I work with real estate agents with varied backgrounds, and varied businesses, in various parts of the country. But here's what I can tell you most of them have in common: a problem managing distractions.
If you compare your business to the human body, you know that the … (11 comments)

distractions: Turn Off the News and Get Back to Work - 02/09/17 04:33 PM

Turn Off the News and Get Back to Work
I have been overwhelmed with concern from many of my clients about the state of our country now that the election is over and we have a new a new President. I work hard NOT to discuss politics and I will adhere to that rule in this week's Zebra Report. However, I do need to address how some real estate agents are being affected by the constant barrage of media and news stories about the new President.
Whether you are a Republican or Democrat, whether you are thrilled or deeply … (2 comments)

distractions: Are You Ready for Your “Distraction Diet” Guidelines? - 06/08/12 01:20 AM
Are You Ready for Your "Distraction Diet" Guidelines?
Last week my Zebra Report focused on what I called the "distraction diet" - a concept based on regulating the interruptions you allow which disrupt your ability to focus and work.
Remember, distractions draw us in because they either: 1) add pleasure to our lives, or 2) remove pain from our lives.
The first step in managing your distractions is to determine why you are being distracted. Is the task you are trying to tackle something that:
Bores you? Frustrates you? Doesn't feel natural to you? Takes too long? You don't have … (4 comments)
