colorado kids: Where To Go Sledding Around Highlands Ranch Colorado - 01/09/11 06:57 PM
As we finally are getting measurable snowfall in the south Denver suburbs, my daughter has already asked me to take her sledding.
Both the kids are praying for a snow day, and I don't know if it will happen yet, but if it does, I guarantee you I will be sledding.
Here are some places in Highlands Ranch & surrounding Denver area where we have enjoyed sledding in the past.  I want to point out that not all of these are on parks, and I don't know if there are official rules about sledding at any of them.  If that … (0 comments)

colorado kids: Denver Relocation Info: Douglas County School District Kindergarten Enrollment 2011 - 01/08/11 10:20 PM
I've spoken a bit recently about Open Enrollment and School of Choice in Colorado but there is another school related deadline coming up that you need to be aware of if you have young ones and you have recently moved to Douglas County.
Kindergarten Enrollment is generally in January for the following year, and that is no exception for 2011 - 2012 school year.
Douglas County School District holds kindergarten enrollment at each school, all at their own times that range from 1/10 - 1/31.
There is a list of required paper work that you need to bring with you … (2 comments)

Basically, what this means is that if a particular public school has room, they will open enroll for other children living in Colorado. This opens up an abundance … (9 comments)

colorado kids: Giving Back This Holiday Season And Always - 11/20/10 01:24 PM
I have always been one to do my best to give back to the community in whatever form I can, service, time, treasure - you name it.
With our children, it was important to us to instill that in the kids.  When they were younger, participation was limited.  They would bring food to school for food bank drives, participate in penny wars for charity in their classrooms, and shovel and rake for neighbors when they could.  We participated together in community races handing out water and gift bags (and sometimes participate as racers) but it can be challenging to find opportunities … (4 comments)

colorado kids: Happy New Year Denver! - 12/31/08 05:50 PM

Happy New Year Denver!
There is still something about New year's Eve that I have thought ever since I was young, the flipping of the calendar page so to speak is actually quite eventful to me.  The start of something new & fresh has always been a bit inspirational to me.  Corny?  Maybe.  But true.  Wrapping up one year and putting it in perspective, evaluating goals in life met, and others to still strive for - I like it.  And I am not talking about your usual "resolutions" - its a bit more than that - most people don't … (6 comments)

colorado kids: Denver Living - Perfect Fall Day - 11/03/08 08:18 AM
I originally posted this 2 weeks ago on my other Denver real estate blog, but since this weekend was again picture perfect and involved shorts, snow peaked mountains in the distance, near 80 degree temps, beautiful fall colors and soccer, I thought I would share here as well. - Steve

Just a quick picture to show you what it may look like in the fall if you were moving to Highlands Ranch.
I spent some time on Saturday taking a break from working with some Denver home buyers to watch my daughter's soccer game. This picture was taken in the … (5 comments)

Littleton Craft Fair Next Saturday 10/4 If you have lived in Littleton for any length of time, you for sure know how big the Littleton Friends of the Library and Museum Craft Fair is, even if you haven't been.  Generally held the first Saturday in October, it is really one of the larger events throughout the year in Littleton and this year is no exception - there will be over 300 booths.

Living in Highlands Ranch - Trails Are Not Just For Recreation
I have written a few times in the past about how great the trail system is throughout Highlands Ranch Colorado and how the trails in Highlands Ranch even connect to other areas such as through the Highline Canal the East West Trail and the Back Country Wilderness.  You can read some of those pieces here:

colorado kids: Living in Denver - Chatfield State Park - Dogs Love It Too - 09/14/08 10:10 AM
The weather is starting to turn here in the Denver area - cool crisp mornings and evenings are still warm enough on most days for shorts & T-Shirts.  So before the weather completely turns we decided to take a much needed adventure to Chatfield State Park.
This wasn't our ordinary visit with fishing in the south ponds, or a picnic on the beach or an afternoon on a boat or a hike on the trails - this time we decide to bring our dog for his first swim! It was also an excellent time for me to share an afternoon with … (12 comments)

colorado kids: Living in Highlands Ranch - One Last Hurrah At The Outdoor Pools - 08/30/08 03:53 PM
After nearly 3 months for my children to play in all of the pools of the Highlands Ranch Community Association, I asked my children this morning which were their favorites this year.  You have just a few days, and in the case of Westridge - today, to enjoy the outdoor pools.
Here is my kids recap:
Both of the kids loved the Eastridge Outdoor Pool.  First place no doubt.  It seemed to have the most options, with a bit deeper water, possibilities for lap swimming, racing each other down the side by side slides and then escaping indoors for the giant … (0 comments)

High School Football in Highlands Ranch is big.  Really big.  With 4 high schools in the area, 3 of them play each other in football and as you can imagine the rivalries get big.  You know I love attending football if you read my post bout football in Highlands Ranch last year as well.
Fall is crisp with cool mornings and breezy nights and the lights at Shea stadium in Highlands Ranch are on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights through the end of October.

colorado kids: SUDC - Josh & Gus's Run For a Reason - 08/16/08 09:39 PM
SUDC - Josh & Gus’s Run For A Reason - Denver I am going to keep this short and sweet.  Because honestly, its a topic that is difficult.  So difficult I took the easy way out and had my wife guest author for me last year to tell you about it.  You can read her post from last year here: Give Back Denver . But its important enough that I need to share.

An upcoming annual event is Josh & Gus's Run For a Reason.  Josh Gove & Gus McDonald were 2 little boys that died suddenly in their … (2 comments)

colorado kids: Living in Colorado - Summer = Water World - 08/05/08 06:44 PM
As I recently wrote when summing up many of the Denver area water parks, we were making our annual visit to Water World.  We try to go once a year and the kids always have such a blast.
I try to take a day off during the week to go, it seems the crowds are a bit more manageable and I do work many weekends selling Denver Real Estate, so my kids enjoy having a week day with dad.

We actually had great weather although it did cloud up just a bit as we were getting ready to leave and … (4 comments)

colorado kids: Hockey Equipment Used Sale - This Saturday at the Ice Ranch - 08/05/08 05:05 PM
As a hockey parent, I completely appreciate the opportunity to unload some old hockey equipment of my "growing-like-a-weed" son.  So I was thrilled when I received an email letting me now that this Saturday, 8/9 the Ice Ranch is hosting a used hockey equipment swap in its parking lot.
Its from 10am until 2:00 pm and the Ice Ranch is located at 841 Southpark Drive in Littleton, CO - just north of County Line and west of Broadway.
It sounds like the swap will be set up like garage sale style - everyone manning their own equipment.  Sounds good to me.

colorado kids: Living in Douglas County- The Schools - Keeping Track of the Tracks - 07/25/08 10:05 AM
I recently worked with a very nice couple that is going to be moving to the Denver suburbs from out of state.  They had three children and although they are very young right now, they plan on staying here for quite some time so they had a lot of questions about the schools in the Denver area.
The communities that they were considering were all in the south Denver suburbs - all in Douglas County - they were Highlands Ranch, Castle
Pines and Lone Tree.   They had heard and read a little about the Douglas County Schools - they already … (5 comments)

colorado kids: Living in Littleton - Western Welcome Week is Almost Here - 07/25/08 07:49 AM
On Thursday, August 7th, the much looked forward to, annual Littleton Western Welcome Week will begin.
The events continue for 11 days, with Festival Day on Saturday, August 16th. The Festival Day includes a Children's Firefighters Parade, The Grand Parade, and the Arts & Craft Fair throughout the streets of old Littleton.
Festival Day is one of highlights of the week of course but many other events throughout the week are not to be missed as well.  This year there are 77 events scheduled.  Here are a few.  Personally, we are going to try and make it to the Hawkquest event on … (5 comments)
