denver businesses: BreakAway Sports New Location - 02/27/11 11:17 PM
I had the pleasure of visiting the newest location of Breakaway Sports this weekend several times. See, lacrosse season starts tomorrow. My son has gone from 5'6 to 5'11" since the spring season ended so needless to say, pretty much everything had to be re-purchase. Protective equipment will not be very protective if it does not fit. As I sit and write this, my son is re-stringing his stick, apparently this is the first time he is attempting this on his own and he is pretty excited about it. The guy that helped us at the store carefully found him the

My blogger friend from across the country has given me a scoop to tell you about. Cindy Jones lives in Northern Virginia, and has told her readers about one of her favorite Hamburger hangouts - Five Guys. I actually know of them vaguely - I have family in her neck of the woods and my brother in law mentioned to me that he likes Five Guys. My wife visited this summer and became familiar with them as well. Well, Cindy has family here in the Denver Suburbs - right in Highlands Ranch so she has shared that her family will soon

Here is one more scoop that is too good to share. And this time its a scoop quite literally. For a bit I have had a new local business on my list and

denver businesses: Living in Denver Suburbs - Streets of Southglenn Start to Open - 09/22/08 09:04 PM
I have been driving some Denver area home buyers around lately that were curious about the construction going on at the old Southglenn Mall. They were relocating from out of state and their current area as they put it had "ancient shopping centers". The new development is called Streets of Southglenn and although much of the construction is still underway, some of the shops are now opened. My buyers in particular were delighted there would be such a nice place to shop & dine nearby. Staples and Best Buy and the Macy Home Furnishings Department opened first and Dick's Sporting

denver businesses: Living in the Denver Suburbs - IKEA Will Build A Store in Centennial - 09/11/08 02:13 PM
IKEA Is Coming To The South Denver Suburbs - Centennial CO To Be Exact By noon yesterday, I had heard mention of the new IKEA store 3 times. And by 5pm - that number grew to at least 15. Word spread quickly that there would be an IKEA store opening in the Denver area and while shoppers that are familiar with IKEA are delighted, there are further implications of the news as well. Let's face it - the media tells us every day how rough the economy is over and over across the board nation wide. But we have been hearing

denver businesses: SUDC - Josh & Gus's Run For a Reason - 08/16/08 09:39 PM
SUDC - Josh & Gus’s Run For A Reason - Denver I am going to keep this short and sweet. Because honestly, its a topic that is difficult. So difficult I took the easy way out and had my wife guest author for me last year to tell you about it. You can read her post from last year here: Give Back Denver . But its important enough that I need to share. An upcoming annual event is Josh & Gus's Run For a Reason. Josh Gove & Gus McDonald were 2 little boys that died suddenly in their

denver businesses: Another Company Bringing Jobs to Denver! - 08/16/08 12:11 AM
As announced in various sources this morning, Vestas American Wind Technology, Inc. will be building 2 factories in Brighton and bringing many new jobs to Colorado - 1350 of them. Vestas already has a plain Windsor and has chosen Brighton partly because of its proximity to the existing plant. The announcement furthers the renawable energy business in Colorado that continues to grow here. Now Brighton certainly isn't in my regular area that I help homeowners in the Denver area, I typically service the South Metro Denver real estate market. But I wanted to post about this anyway - this is a

denver businesses: Living in Lone Tree - Great Mexican Food at Rio Grande - 07/19/08 09:38 AM
Last weekend we decided to eat out and everyone wanted Mexican food, so we decided to head over to Rio Grande in Lone Tree. There is also another one in Denver- its actually in LoDo not far from Coors Field. But for this dinner out we stayed closer to home. The Rio Grande has been one of our favorites since the Lone Tree location opened - the chips & salsa are great and everything else on the menu is fabulous too. It is also one of the place I recommend checking out when the first move to the Denver area. My

denver businesses: Denver Featured on Nightly News as Poster City for Light Rail - 06/18/08 09:28 AM
Last night, 6/17/08, on the NBC Nightly News, a piece featured Denver as the "Poster City" for light rail. The piece is touching on topics that have to do with rising fuel costs and maintaining a quality of life and traffic issues and they looked at Denver's Light Rail as an example. You can view the piece in its entirety here. There is another short piece online that was not on the air here as well. For quite some time I have known many folks that have used light rail to commute into downtown Denver, for many - reasons varied from

denver businesses: Denver Gas Prices - Ouch! Here's How to Find Your Local Low - 06/10/08 12:41 PM
You are probably as irritated as the rest of us at the price of gas. Around town its nearing the $4.00 mark and I hear a few places in the Denver area have now surpassed that. Here is a quick & easy way to find out where in the Denver area has the cheap(er)(est) gas prices on any given day at any given time. Go to Denver's page of Gas Buddy. It will even tell you the highest prices around as well, in case you were wondering that too. Here's a screen shot from this morning (6/10/08). Spotters around

denver businesses: Denver Will Go Dark For 'Earth Hour' - 03/28/08 01:09 PM
I have been busy this week, and a little out of the loop, but just this morning I was reading an article on-line about Earth Hour. Apparently tomorrow, Saturday March 29th at 8pm worldwide - many cities are encouraging local businesses and in some cases, residents, to go dark for one hour. Denver is no exception and Denver's Mayor has encouraged Denver's residents and business to take part. I like the idea. I am the type of person that often delves deep into thought, and I can say that there have been many a times that I have wondered, driving around at

denver businesses: Yet Another Company To Relocate to Denver - Environment Friendly Too! - 03/27/08 07:18 PM
And yet another company has announced their plans to relocate to the Denver area - this time from Austin, Texas. Yesterday, Austin based Renewable Energy Systems Americas, Inc. (RES-Americas) announced that their corporate headquarters for their renewable energy company will be moving to Broomfield. I think it is absolutely fantastic that yet another "green" company will be based here in the Denver area. RES-Americas is a renewable wind energy company and already has offices in Elbert and Lincoln counties. 70 employees will relocate to Denver from Austin and 70 more will be hired here for the Denver corporate office. denver businesses: ConocoPhillips is the Buyer of Sun / StorageTek Land in Louisville - 02/21/08 10:15 AM
There had been a sense of mystery surrounding the purchase of the Sun Micro Systems / StorageTek campus in Louisville for a few weeks. Yesterday Governor Ritter announced that he had received a call from a representative at ConocoPhillips announcing they were the mystery buyer. This is huge economic news for the Denver area - it is not evidently clear how many new jobs ConocoPhillips would potentially bring to the area but the center will house corporate development and training and research in the field of renewable energy. The new facility was announced to be up and running by 2011/2012.

denver businesses: A New Santoro's Pizza For The South Denver Suburbs - 01/22/08 11:29 PM
My wife kept telling me how great the new Safeway is at Broadway & Mineral in Littleton. If you asked her a year ago if she would have shopped at this new Safeway - her answer was no! She was not at all happy about Tony's Market leaving this location that was so close to our home. Fast forward a year later, I have actually heard her bragging about how much she loves the new Safeway. Fresh peanut butter bar, Gelato station, manned Coffee bean station, - the list goes on & on. I know their has been some reluctance

denver businesses: Website to Provide "Transparency" in Colorado Hospitals - 12/01/07 09:46 AM
I read an article this week online through the Denver Business Journal that I found very interesting. A new website has been launched, The Colorado Hospital Report Card, allowing potential hospital-seekers look & compare facts such as cost and quality for Colorado Hospitals. It is the result of House Bill 1278 that "required Colorado hospitals to report on clinical measures that let consumers compare health care services." The website's homepage states that it has the "primary purpose of ensuring that statewide hospital data and clinical outcomes are made available to the general public in a clear and usable manner."
