Governor Bobby Jindal had to love his trip to Lake Charles on Tuesday! He was here to help officially announce that a $100 million manufacturing plant will soon be built in Lake Charles. It was not ashes, but tons and hundreds of thousands of tons of timber loss resulting from Hurricane Rita. These stacks of timber were waiting to be shipped out and converted to various by products such as bags of mulch. It seemed to make us feel better to know that our beloved trees were not going to be totally lost forever. They would in some way find a new life. Several years ago, I bought real estate rights from Laura Kelley to this photo of the Lake Charles Civic Center at Night and have used it in multiple ways. In looking at it recently, it started me to thinking about all that Lake Charles, Southwest Louisiana and, of course, the entire region that suffered from the twin sisters of Katrina and Rita. In a few months we will enter another Hurricane season, but we are wiser, better prepared, and less fearful. One of the many joys of my teaching career and as the sponsor of the W. W. Lewis Middle School Science Club, was to introduce students to nature.
