ECU head coach Skip Holtz and Director of Athletics Terry Holland are together at the Waldorf this afternoon, possibly to discuss Monday's meetings between Holtz and representives from Syracuse.

A city greenway project and an initiative to build greener structures were given the go-ahead at Monday night's City Council meeting.
The council voted unanimously - excepting Councilman Larry Spell, who was absent - to award a Goldsboro company with the contract to begin construction on the first half-mile of the South Tar River Greenway. That initial portion of the greenway will run between the Town Common and Woodlawn Street, and then from Woodlawn to North Warren Street.
Hine Sitework will be paid $329,800 to install 10-foot wide asphalt greenways, narrow a current roadway and install a storm drainage pipe. … (1 comments)

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - East Carolina will play Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl's Golden Anniversary Game on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 5 p.m. (ET). The game will be televised by ESPN. 
 
East Carolina (9-4) will be making its third appearance in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. The Pirates earned their spot in the game after defeating Tulsa 27-24 Saturday and winning the Conference USA championship. Two college fairs are planned in Greenville.
A Pitt County College Fair is planned from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Greenville Convention Center. More than 50 public, private and community colleges will be represented at the fair from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The College Foundation of North Carolina also will answer questions about preparing and paying for college and offer financial aid workshops at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

Pitt County's government and business leaders have long said the community is recession proof given the continuing growth of East Carolina University and University Health Systems.
Wanda Yuhas, director of Pitt County's Development Commission, is no longer making that claim.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University's Head Football Coach Skip Holtz, who has led the Pirates to two bowl appearances and consecutive winning seasons for the first time since the 1999 and 2000 campaigns, has agreed to tentative terms of a proposed contract that would help secure his position through the 2013 season according to an announcement from ECU Director of Athletics Terry Holland Tuesday.

College presidents from about 100 of the nation's best-known universities, including Duke, East Carolina University, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.
The movement called the Amethyst Initiative began quietly recruiting presidents more than a year ago to provoke national debate about the drinking age.

Perhaps no one on the East Carolina football team was more upset than Brandon Simmons to hear that his camp roommate, Dominique Lindsay, was injured last week and likely lost for the 2008 season.
