Forbes Magazine has ranked Greenville as the 2nd best small city in the United States for business and careers. This is the third time that Greenville has been included in the rankings. Greenville's previous rankings were 26th and 8th respectively. Forbes staff researched hundreds of small metropolitan areas throughout the country looking at various categories such as educational opportunities, the cost of doing business, the cost of living, job growth, income growth as well as many others. A city greenway project and an initiative to build greener structures were given the go-ahead at Monday night's City Council meeting. The council voted unanimously - excepting Councilman Larry Spell, who was absent - to award a Goldsboro company with the contract to begin construction on the first half-mile of the South Tar River Greenway. That initial portion of the greenway will run between the Town Common and Woodlawn Street, and then from Woodlawn to North Warren Street. Two college fairs are planned in Greenville. A Pitt County College Fair is planned from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Greenville Convention Center.
