jo potvin: You MUST Buy This - 01/12/12 07:43 AM
If you work in the real estate industry you are most likely talking on your cell phone...alot! On a recent trip to Europe, I stopped in a real estate office and while it was interesting to see the listings and the office, the most interesting thing I saw was the Moshi! This is a classic style handset that plugs into your cell phone. There are a myriad of reasons to use this phone but for me I love the fact that it is easier to talk "hands free", and the added benefit that the controversial radiation is not near

jo potvin: Would You Stage This? - 10/24/11 06:05 PM
I don't know if this should be considered "stager humor" or just so fun and funky that it transcends the topic. Living the life of a home stager in Cincinnati I find myself always tempted to consider "What would we do with this room to make it most sellable for our clients?" Would we remove faux finishes, de-clutter, add a flat screen...? No way! We would just step back and enjoy it for what it is! These funky photos are taken at the Parador Inn in Pittsburgh. It's the perfect spot for easy access to the Andy Warhol Museum and a

jo potvin: Staged Homes Are Selling Fast...Look at These - 09/14/11 09:32 PM
Look at the images on the left...the "before shots" and look at the "afters" on the right. Compare the 3 homes. What do these properties have in common? What is different? In common: These Cincinnati homes were staged by Design To Market These Cincinnati homes were not ready to put on the market before they were staged by Design To Market All three of these homes were listed within the last 2 months All three of these homes sold within 3 weeks of staging Differences: These homes ranged in price from $68,000 to $450,000 These homes were

jo potvin: Here Kitty Kitty! - 09/01/11 04:34 PM
What to do...what to do?!? The Cincinnati Home Staging team from Design To Market hit the road today with a schedule full of consultations. With stops in Amelia, Indian Hill, and Oakley, we knew we would have a full day of work ahead of us. After spending several hours in a home in Indian Hill rearranging furniture and coordinating the move of a few items to a storage unit, we headed to Oakley. As we entered this home we wondered what staging would be required. This home had great curb appeal but what would we find inside? Home staging can be a tough profession.

jo potvin: Investors Make Staging A Part of Their Business Plan - 02/24/11 02:41 PM
What do the photos shown above all have in common? Each of these homes was rehabbed and these Cincinnati real estate investors have included home staging in their marketing plans as a strategic way to insure that their homes sold quickly and for top dollar. The price range in the homes pictured above was between $110,000 and $180,000. These homes were located in the following neighborhoods: Kenwood, Covedale, Madeira, Anderson, Oakley, and Bridgetown. Most importantly, they were under contract in an average of 15 days after listing. Staging makes sense for all types of home sellers:

jo potvin: Staging Makes Sun Porch Into Critical Living Space - 06/05/10 12:04 PM
It's a small home on a desirable street in Cincinnati. Staging in Cincinnati's older communities has become a critical piece of sales successes. This home was built before the days of the expectation of multiple rooms for play, entertaining, work, etc. Today's buyers need to be shown how to adapt older spaces to newer purposes. While a solarium is a nice bonus in a large home, it is often needed in a smaller home as an add on to the usable everyday space in a home. This room is nicely finished and the view is attractive. But, what

jo potvin: Staging In Cincinnati: Look at this Transformation! - 05/22/10 11:59 PM
This room was not meeting buyers expectations. Why you might ask? Here are 3 places to start... The lamps were distracting and somewhat dated. Awkward furniture placement. Wallpaper in the dining room. A simple staging with mostly accessories and artwork delivered a completely new look. Often sellers have the right pieces but they are missing the "glue" that creates the necessary look to grab a buyer. Sometimes the problem is bigger! This room had some bigger issues. Painted bookshelves that need to be neutralized. Wallpaper border that needed to be removed. An empty room that doesn't

jo potvin: Curb Appeal In The Spring Market - 05/09/10 05:55 PM
I recently attended a staging seminar where the owner of White Oak Garden Center, Jeff Webeler, spoke on the least expensive way to cost effectively add color to the front of a home. We at Design To Market have been staging homes in Cincinnati since 2004. We continue to challenge ourselves on the best way to help our clients get the most bang for their buck in these outdoor spaces. It seems we have agreed with Jeff that colorful planters give a lot of impact and color to the front of a home. I thought his tips

jo potvin: Owner Occupied Home Staged and Sold in 3 Days: The Dining Room - 11/15/09 01:36 PM
For those of you that read the previous post Owner Occupied Home Staged and Sold in 3 Days I would like to now share the photos and some observations. Watch for future updates as additional room transformations in this home will be highlighted. Dining Room: Changes that made the difference: Remove wallpaper - It's tough to create broad interest in a room with wallpaper. Wallpaper can be a turn off to buyers with different taste. Remove window treatments - It's safest to stick with neutrals. In bedrooms pleated shades are safe. In rooms where privacy is not an issue just take them down.

jo potvin: Owner Occupied Home Staged and Sold in 3 Days - 10/28/09 10:44 PM
On the market for months, a well-maintained home in a nice Cincinnati suburb continued to receive showings but never the long awaited offer. Feedback was lukewarm and gave the seller little to act upon. The Realtor had done all of the right things in working with their client but they too were stumped. After the seller's Realtor recommended they contact Design To Market Home Staging, we received a call from the homeowner asking about the staging process. We talked at length about the staging consultation and the types of feedback we would provide. The seller considered staging and at the same

jo potvin: Cincinnati Homes Are Selling! - 08/26/09 10:40 PM
This home was staged by Design To Market in July and sold in 3 days! It is a great success and it is real. It also defies the myth that some believe staging is only for high end homes. This home was listed for under $200,000. At all price points a fast sale means lower carrying costs, the opportunity to buy that new dream home you are hoping for, and most importantly a higher sale price. Whether your home is vacant or you live there, staging is CRITICAL. If you are trying to sell quickly and for more money talk to your Realtor

jo potvin: Design To Market 3 Cincinnati Staged Homes Sell in under 30 Days - 07/07/09 11:17 PM
3 quotes-3 Cincinnati Home Sellers-3 Months! All of these homes have sold in the last 90 days. The common thread was a fear that the current market would prevent them from selling their homes and that they decided to take control. All three clients worked hard to put their best foot forward and sold in less than 30 days after staging with Design to Market Home Staging. Read their stories! Client #1 My house was for sale for 2 years and after Design to Market added their decorating touch it sold in just 30 days! They incorporated some of my

jo potvin: Master Bedrooms...a critical part of the staging challenge - 03/20/09 09:07 PM
We at Design To Market LLC recently had the opportunity to stage a beautiful home in the Cincinnati suburb of Anderson. The master bedroom is large, the attached dressing room is spacious, and the master bath has real potential deliver the "spa like" feel that can be so appealing to a prospective buyer. The challenge was easy to identify: The furniture was not arranged to it's best potential The bedding was dark and slightly dated The wall colors were a shade of pink that would not be broadly appealing to the market Take a look... Before Now look... Repositioned furniture New bedding A

jo potvin: It's Almost Spring and It's Time To Stage Your Home - 01/06/09 11:16 PM
I have to let the cat out of the bag. I am the owner of Design To Market Home Staging in Cincinnati (that's not the secret!) and my phone is ringing off the hook with calls to consult with prospective staging clients. It might seem like the ice storm we had in Cincinnati this morning is enough to confirm that we are in for a few more months of winter but don't be fooled...the homeowner down the street that seems to be quietly enjoying the slower pace of winter is working like crazy to put a perfectly prepared home on the market. So,

jo potvin: A Home Stagers Count Down to the Spring of 2009 - 11/10/08 07:30 PM
The election has passed and we are all looking optimistically for change. Change in the economy, change in financial markets and most importantly...change in the housing market. What is a seller to do? There are many theories on best times to capture a buyer. Spring, Summer, Fall or even winter: A buyer is a buyer if they need to buy. Corporate transferees, changes in family status, successful sale of a home that has been on the market...all of these are perfect reasons for a buyer to buy. Keeping this in mind it is critical to have a 2 pronged
