There are many things you do not think of in regards to running a staging business until you actually have to deal with the problem that occurs because you did not think ahead. This is one of those things that I learned from a narrowly avoided mistake.
From time to time, we are called on to stage vacant listings using the some of the sellers belongings mixed with your own inventory.  During the early days of my staging career, I was called on to perform such a task.  Being inexperienced and giddy over the opportunity, I set out on a huge shopping trip and carted … (39 comments)

Hey, STAGERS!! Give Rich Jacobson Something to Think About!!!! - 08/14/07 07:23 PM
Most of you should already know that Rich Jacobson has posted a contest for the stagers of Active Rain.
The Carnival of Content - Staging Professionals is underway and so far we have a very poor showing.  Rich's original post on the subject (see the rules and perameters here) has gotten response from people chomping at the bit to see what we could come up with - they want to see what we can do.  As of today, we only have 4 entries and with 3 opportunities to place, it's not much of a challenge so far.
Come one, everybody!  This is an … (8 comments)

Staging is All About Making the Right Connections - 08/13/07 08:22 PM

Anyone who has bought or sold their first place can attest to the fact that it is so much more than an impersonal business transaction. Home buying decisions are not made based on numbers on a piece of paper, or MLS listing, they are made in the heart.  Your … (23 comments)

Staging Inventory: Building a Color Theme - 08/10/07 01:11 PM
Shopping for inventory is a crucial part of the staging industry when specializing in vacant homes and builders models.  Many times I have been tempted to (and did) purchase an item based solely on the great deal I was getting, only to find that it didn't flow with anything else I had in stock therefore it was useless to me.
I had to come up with a better way to build a solid and cohesive inventory, because in most cases I do not have a ton of shopping time to pull a look together.  It seems like the minute a client decides they … (26 comments)

I'm not a Home Stager Anymore - 08/02/07 10:34 AM
For several months now, I have been cringing every time I have to explain to people what a home stager is and exactly what it is that I do.  I came to realize that the term 'stager' is confusing to most people and unless they have heard the term used in the proper context, they can't imaging what it might mean.
I have also been finding it difficult to market myself in the vacant and builders model arena using that moniker as most people associate staging with occupied homes.  In light of these things, I decided to start calling myself anything but … (53 comments)
